Every year the Granton FFA sends its officer team to the National FFA Convention, which was held in Indianapolis, Ind., this year. While at convention the officers attended the sessions and listened to many awesome speeches.

The officers also attended a tour of the Broken Wagon Bison Farm in Indiana, where we were able to learn about the work that goes into raising bison. We even had the opportunity to go out into the bison pasture and see them up close. Other fun events included attending a leadership workshop about advocating for agriculture, seeing the many different agriculture ventures at the Career Show, going to a rodeo, and seeing a hypnotist show.

Not only was this convention fun, but it was also very rewarding. Granton FFA members Jillian and Matthew Tyler both received their American Degrees, which is an honor that less than 1 percent of FFA members receive. We also were able to send two FFA members on stage during the National Chapter Award session. Granton FFA was a gold-rated 3 Star chapter, which is one of the highest rankings a chapter can receive based on its Program of Activities.

This was the first time in many years that our chapter has received this award and it was very exciting to know that although we are small, we still rank just as high as many larger chapters.

Whether you are a farmer or not, there are always plenty of fun and exciting things to do and see at the National FFA Convention.
