Spencer student earns accolade

Promise Ngirwe, a student at Spencer High School, has been recognized as one of the 2020 recipients of the Xello/ Method Test Prep High School Student Scholarship presented by the Wisconsin School Counselor Association. The Xello/ Method Test Prep Scholarship recognizes high school senior students and the role their school counselor played in their high school success.

Promise’s application included multiple examples of school counselors helping her overcome a barrier or obstacle during high school and how counselors helped prepare her for her postsecondary path. Promise talked highly of her experience with her school counselor, Katrina Rotar.

“Mrs. Rotar has always gone above and beyond to help me succeed, and she has pushed me to overcome hardships in pursuit of success,” she wrote. Promise and Mrs. Rotar worked together to help Promise achieve a Questbridge National College Match Finalist opportunity.

“Mrs. Rotar is possibly the most kindhearted person I will ever meet, and I am forever grateful to have been graced the chance to know her,”Promise said.

Each February, the Wisconsin School Counselor Association recognizes students and individuals within the school counseling profession who demonstrated profound impact on the school counseling profession and lives of students. Applications for the Xello/Method Test Prep Scholarship are submitted to the Wisconsin School Counselor Association Professional Recognition & Scholarship Committee and are rated by committee of active and retired school counselors.
