Inquiry afoot!

Inquiry afoot! Inquiry afoot!

This past weekend I posed a theoretical question, that some could also describe as philosophical in nature as well. It expands the mind and some actually don’t even want to try to answer it. Mostly out of fear and not being able to wrap their head around the vastness of possibilities, or lack there of. The question: If you had to choose between being stranded in the middle of the ocean with maybe a small raft to use or in the middle of our universe with nothing but a spacesuit (let’s say with all the air you would want), which would you choose?

Really think about it. What would you choose? There are an infinite amount of possibilities of how you could become unalive, in essence. I know this sounds a bit morbid, but well sometimes my brain thinks of these things without the morbidity in tow. The person who I posed the question to asked if they would have anything else besides air and a suit in space, as well as anything else in the middle of the ocean. The stipulation was they would have an infinite amount of air, no food or water. Let’s say that wasn’t a factor - your health bar never wavered (like creative mode in Minecraft). Like I said before a raft like structure to hang out on the ocean and for space, just a space suit.

How long do you think you would survive? There are countless ways you could be unalived in the ocean: drowning, eaten by a shark, or any other sea creature that thinks you would be a tasty meal, pirates, etc.; or in space: drifting into tumultuous regions of asteroid belts, black holes, intergalactic species (however they could “save” you), or who knows burning up because you become too close to the sun, etc.

Do you think there could be a chance for survival? Do you have what it takes to forge on ahead in whichever situation you are in and remain alive? This makes me curious as to how you would think to handle the situation, or would you give up and in to the countless ways to perish? Either way, I think it is safe to say that every single last one of us would be so scared that the fear would either press us on or freeze us in a state. Hopefully if you were in the latter region, your freeze mentality would eventually thaw out (truly all of this is hypothetical and the understanding of that is not how one gets out of the freeze state is apparent).

If you can wrap your head around this weird but altruistic inquiry, something could be learned from your answer. Perhaps you can learn something about yourself if you actually gave questions like this room to roll around in your noggin’ for a bit. Happy floating.
