In their first outings, the Cornell-Lake Holcombe baseball program knows they have things to work on, but team spirit isn’t one of them.

April 8 vs. Birchwood-Winter conference (L 8-1)

The Knights were on the road at Birchwood-Winter and while they went scoreless through four innings, while the home team racked up six runs, what happened on the sidelines was the main highlight.

“Yesterday, our team played a fantastic first game and I couldn’t be any more proud of how the boys showed up for their first game,” said coach Phylicia Smith. “Not only was our field filled with chatter of encouragement, and the basics of outs and where plays were going, our dugout was loud and proud cheering on their teammates.”

The Knights got on the board in the sixth inning, with a run, but Birchwood held on to take the win, 8-1.

“We definitely still have some things to work on, but being able to celebrate how far we have come since last season, was the best ending to our game,” said Smith. “They all walked off of that field PROUD yesterday.”

April 10 vs. Northwood-Solon Springs conference (L 18-1)

Just two days later, the Knights were in action at home, facing off with conference opponent Northwood-Solon Springs, on a cold and rainy day.

However, the bats were hot on the visiting team and with the Knights scoring only a lone run, the game went to Northwood-Solon Springs, 18-1.
