Annual Taylor County Moving for a Cure fundraiser set for May 16

Taylor County Moving for a Cure is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. The group was organized 10 years ago as a grass-roots committee with the goal of dispersing all proceeds from the event to cancer patients living within our communities. In 2024 we made the decision to expand our reach by allocating 10% of the funds raised to cancer patients “working” within Taylor County for at least one year’s time with the same employer.

The mission of TCMC is to be an advocate for our local community members and those working within our local communities to provide them and their loved ones with the support needed throughout their treatment and recovery. Funds are raised each year surrounding the time of our May event and support cancer patients living and working within Taylor County. Funds are granted in $1,000 stipends to qualifying applicants regardless of age, insurance status, income base, or where treatment is received to offset expenses associated with current treatments for cancer.

The 10th annual Taylor County Moving for a Cure cancer fundraiser is set for Friday evening, May 16, at the Medford City Park. The event will offer a 50/50 raffle, gift card board, and raffle tickets for attendees to purchase tickets for chances to win prizes. Top prizes this year include a REC Center membership for two and a Solo Stove (REC Center); Pit Boss Griddle (Edward Jones, Russ Jablonsky); two $500 cash prizes (Abbyland); Sunday Luncheon Experience for 8 at Marilyn’s (Marilyn); and VIP Parkfest Tickets (The Chamber). Raffle tickets are available to purchase in advance at Quality Care Chiropractic and Wellness and K99 Radio. Tickets will also be available the evening of our event. Drawings will be at 8:00pm the evening of the event (need not be present to win). The Kiwanis will once again be offering food and beverages from 5:30pm until 8:30pm for all to enjoy.

The Committee, made up of Carmen Thiede, Tammy Fieselman, Patty Krug, Sherry Meyer, Karen Dahlvig, Cassi Zondlo, Jennifer Sobotta and Karen Kropp-Mueller, is organizing the fundraiser. The 5k Walk registration will start at 5:30 p.m. The opening ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m with our guest speaker sharing their personal heart-felt journey with cancer. The walk will begin at approximately 7:00 p.m. Ten-year anniversary shirts, as well as Dove balloons will be available for purchase to be released during the event in memory or in honor of loved ones affected by cancer.

The Committee encourages individuals, teams, and businesses to take part in the event and support local cancer patients. Team registration folders and individual fundraising flyers are available for pick up at K99 Radio or the Medford Chamber office. Ask family and friends to join in your fundraising efforts. 10-year anniversary shirts are available to purchase in advance from K99 Radio. If you plan to attend the event, wear your shirt in honor and in memory of all those who we remember and celebrate.

Last year the event provided 61 individuals or families living in Taylor County experiencing cancer treatments with $1,000 stipends. The fund allocation will be based on the total amount raised on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those seeking assistance must complete a simple grant application with the necessary requirements found within the application. Applications will be available beginning June 1 on our website (TCMoving4Cure.com) or from the Taylor County Health Department. We look forward to seeing you on May 16.
