Accomplishments are coming way of Knights

By Ginna Young

As the season moves along, the very young Cornell-Lake Holcombe baseball program is still figuring out their roles and how that can lead to picking up some wins.

The Knights were on the road to begin the week, but things couldn’t get going for the visitors.

“Sometimes, you end up beating yourself, before the other team can,” said coach Phylicia Smith.

As a result, Prairie Farm took a 10-0 shutout victory. “We had a lot of errors that were made,” said Smith. “Had we not, we would have stayed in closer competition with Prairie Farm.”

Next up, the Knights hosted Clear Lake, with a lot of wins on the field and things to celebrate.

“For all we were up against, I’d say we had a great outing on Thursday,” said Smith.

One of those things to celebrate, was junior Easton Maier, who scored a run for the Knights, because of his aggressive base running, and a willingness to take chances and steal bases.

“What a huge accomplishment for him,” said Smith. “He also had one of our outs by fielding the ball flawlessly in left field.”

Even with stellar playing, the Knights still fell to Clear Lake, 16-2, but morale remains high.

“The whole team came off of the field with their heads held high and proud of each other,” said Smith. “These kids continue to make me proud to be their coach, every outing we have.”
