VILLAGE OF SPENCER CELEBRATES NEW STAGE

To right, village board members and other supporters cut the ribbon on the new stage in the Spencer Lions Park. Shown from l-r are Harry Toufar, Tom Schafer, Bill Hoes, Pauline Frome, Deb Schafer, Wayne Frome, Mary Zahn, Linda Hinrichsen and Phil White.
“The community truly came together for this project, whether it was purchasing a raffle ticket or a burger, or making a donation, everyone came together. Wayne and Pauline Frome, who are here, earned the right to name this stage. Because this is a community stage, because all of you have helped with it, it will be called the Village of Spencer Stage, because it is a community stage,” said Deb Schafer, the deputy village clerk who headed up the fundraising campaign for this project. “The stage is able to be used for no cost, so think out of the box for what kinds of events could take place here - think outdoor theater, music events or other events.”
She explained the project was $4,000 to $5,000 short of having everything paid for, so any further donations would go to cover that and then to start on Phase II of the project, which will include extending the shelter 100 feet so audience members have cover, and eventually adding restrooms.
She was pleased with how the project turned out. “We went to Door County, up north, all over the state looking at stages to decide what we wanted ours to look like, and I have to say I think ours is the most beautiful stage in Wisconsin,” she said.
Middle right, Wayne Frome presents Deb Schafer a check on behalf of the Loyal Car Show for $1,000 for the stage project, as well as a check for $250 for the Veterans Park. Lower right, residents applaud the official opening of the stage.
Below and bottom left, people enjoy music from the Dave Edwards Group. With a temperature around 60 degrees and plenty of sunshine, the weather turned out quite pleasant for a late October outdoor event.
After the presentation, people enjoyed cake and drinks in the Lions shelter.
Contractors helping with the project included Rick Schroeder of Funktion Design Studio, Luke Franseen of Quality Electrical Solutions, Noel Felix of Straight Wall Framing, Mark Kilty of Quality Construction and general contractor S.D. Eilenbecker.
