10 Years Ago – 2010

The Restore the Floor fund tops $16,000 to purchase a new gym floor at the Cornell High School, thanks to sponsorships from businesses and individuals. Those who donate toward the project, will have their name permanently installed on a tile wall in the high school commons.

20 Years Ago –2000

Chippewa Valley Speedway, northwest of Cadott, gets the go ahead to host another summer of races at the speedway track. Dave Bowe, partner in the venture, says the owners have placed new restrictions at the track, after objections were raised about the weekend- long Punk Fest, which drew a rowdy crowd.

30 Years Ago – 1990

Cable has come to Holcombe, in the form of S & K TV Systems, out of Ladysmith. The company will provide cable to homes bordering the lake, according to partner Randy Scott.

40 Years Ago – 1980

Del Meyer, Cadott Color Center, announces the business will move from the current location between the Bremness Oil Company and Miller Super Valu, to what was the Tom Tobola Ford building, housed on Main Street between Brown’s Variety Store and the Glass Slipper Beauty Salon.

50 Years Ago – 1970

After running successful dancing schools in Cadott, Sheldon, Ladysmith and Stanley, Jean Marie Leja opens a studio in Cornell. The classes take place at the Labor Temple, across from the high school.

60 Years Ago – 1960

Clyde Karlen purchases Greene’s “66” Service on the corner of Main Street and Highway 29. The Stanley man plans to move to Cadott with his family, offering general tune-up work and automotive repairs.

100 Years Ago – 1920

F. E. Williams, Cornell optometrist, offers glasses fitted for satisfaction guaranteed, curing headaches and fixing cross-eyedness without surgery. The services are located in Halls Jewelry Store.
