Paul May has sold his saloon at Perkinstown to J.A. Elliot, of that place. Joseph Hirsch, who has been looking after Mr. May’s interests has returned to this city and will again make his home here.

100 Years Ago March 19, 1925 Iodine Cuts Losses for Badger Breeders

“Hairlessness”, as it is usually called, or goiter which has caused Badger stockmen heavy losses of new-born animals in the past, can be prevented as shown by experiments by the Wisconsin College of Agriculture and by practical experience.

Pigs, calves, lambs, kids, and foals are especially subject to this trouble which causes them to be born dead or so weak that they soon die. They are frequently nearly hairless, hence the name, and pigs, lambs, and kids may have enlarged neckes. Sometimes goiter develops after birth, especially in calves.

75 Years Ago March 23, 1950 Thursday Fire Levels Holway Garage

A Thursday noon fire, the origin of which has not been determined, completely destroyed the Holway town garage and its contents. The building, which was of frame construction and heated by a hot air furnace, was located on the farm of Elmer Neitzel, patrol operator. It was built on skids to permit moving to locations where most needed, Carl Hatlestad, town clerk, said.

Neitzel was plowing snow with the patrol unit and was about a quarter from his home when he saw the flames. Mrs. Neitzel had discovered the fire shortly before this and immediately began calling neighbors for assistance.

Two Lublin girls, Lynn Budrus and Geralyn Nicpon, received A’s at the district forensics contest held in Eau Claire March 15. They will now compete in the state forensics contest at Madison April 19. Their coaches are Miss Marcella Budrus and Mrs. Jane DeStaercke.

The International Fellowship organization from Gilman high school is conducting an aluminum collection drive during the months of March, April and May. The collection point in Lublin is at Budrus Elevator. Only all aluminum articles are acceptable, such as TV dinner trays, foil, cans, etc.

March 22, 2000 Medford School Board rejects Teen Pregnancy Prevention plan

The Medford Board of Education decided not to accept a grant proposal which would have addressed the problem of teen pregnancy throughout the school district. The grant, which is administered by Family Planning Health Services, would have paid for special one-on-one counseling for students who are at risk of early sexual activity.

March 19, 2015 Saluting service Dave Fleegel is Person of the Year, Clem Johnson honored for Lifetime Achievement

Dave Fleegel is a businessman, civic leader, service club volunteer, and community ambassador. It is for those reasons he was selected as the 2015 Medford Area chamber of Commerce Person of the Year. Fleegel will be recognized at the annual recognition banquet to be held on Saturday, May 2 at the Simek Recreation Center in Medord. Clem Johnson will be recognized with the Lifetime Achievement award.
