Fire hall under fire
A proposal for a new fire station in Stratford came under fire at the Stratford Village Board meeting Tuesday night.
Stratford fire commissioner Dale Heil handed out estimates for building costs that almost double the original cost. When a new fire station was proposed, estimates were at $500,000, with half of the money coming from grants.
With the grant situation not looking good for the Stratford area, the engineering firm of Design Unlimited of Marshfield estimated building costs to be between $826,000 and $861,000. That does not include the $90,000 parcel of land, utilities, site work or furniture.
Heil estimated the total cost at around $1 million.
