Dorothy Mary O'Brien was born on May 27, 1941, at home in Riplinger, rural Spencer, to Sylvester and Helen (Bauer) O’Brian. She grew up and received her education in the Spencer area with her sisters, Alice and Carol, and her brother George. After completing her education, Dorothy was united in marriage to David Bergman on June 20, 1959. They resided in the Athens area, where they raised daughters, Peggy and Connie.
Dorothy worked at Edgar Basket Factory for many years until her husband’s death on February 17, 1975. She then worked at Marathon Cheese until her marriage to Robert 'Buck' Schultze on March 12, 1977. Combining their families, Dorothy became a second mom to Hilda Schultze, Roberta Bradley and Darrel Schultze. Robert and Dorothy later added Daniel Schultze to the family. They lived on their farm in the Town of Reseburg, where she raised their children and was a hardworking farm wife. After her husband Buck's death on April 13, 2015, she remained on the farm until her death. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Thorp. Dorothy had many interests, but especially enjoyed her flower beds during the summers, her family parties, making snacks for her grandchildren, and her annual birthday party.
She will be dearly missed by her children: Peggy (Tom) Makovec of Stratford, Connie Bergman (David 'Beaner' Lemke) of Medford, Dan (Tracy) Schultze of Thorp, Darrell (Laura) Schultze of Willard, Roberta Bradley of Eau Claire and Hilda Schultze of Minneapolis, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; one brother, George O'Brien (Vlasta Blaha) of Colby; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
