SCG sends 5 wrestlers to sectionals

Spencer-Columbus Catholic-Granton (SCG) saw five wrestlers place within the top four at regionals this past week to advance to sectionals: Azariah Hoffman (First-), Anna Becker (First-), Wyatt Karl (First-), Teddy Meyer (second), and Jakob Soback (fourth). Hoffman and Becker competed at the WIAA Girls Regional CII in Wautoma Friday and will advance to the girls sectional meet this Friday at Eau Claire North High School. Karl, Meyer, and Soback competed at the WIAA Division II Regional AII at Hayward and will advance to the boys sectional meet this Saturday in Amery. The top three finishers at sectionals will moving on to the state tournament, which begins Feb. 27 at UW-Madison.

The SCG girls took seventh place at regionals with 60 points, with Nekoosa/Port Edwards/Assumption winning the meet with 153.5 points. Only the top two teams advance to sectionals.

The SCG boys also placed seventh at their regional meet, accumulating 109.5 points. Winning the meet was Hayward/Northwood with 251 points.

Complete regional results are as follows (listed by weight class): GIRLS 145 Azariah Hoffman (33-4) placed first and scored 30 team points.

235 Anna Becker (26-8) placed first and scored 30 team points.

BOYS 106 Grant Wirtz (4-19) placed sixth and scored three team points.
