Fundraising event a striking success for Winter Veterans Retreat
On Jan. 26, six lanes filled up for an afternoon of friendly competition and camaraderie in support of our veterans. The Highground’s 12th annual Winter Bowl raised $1,595 for the Winter Veterans Retreat (held Jan. 31-Feb. 2).
The afternoon fun included a colored head pin competition and rail prizes for Winter Bowl participants, while the large basket raffle and 50/50 raffle were open to all bowlers at Bowl Winkle’s. The Highground recognized John with the Infamous Off-Road Jeep group for the highest individual high score of the first game and two teams for team highest scores of the second game with trophies. The Highground put together an award-winning Grand Prize Raffle (valued at $200) consisting of several family games, snacks, a popcorn popper and fixings.
The Highground extends its appreciation to everyone who participated, donated and volunteered their time to make this event and the Winter Veterans Retreat such resounding successes. The three-day retreat getaway offers veterans a blend of nature’s winter beauty and wellness activities along with the diverse camaraderie of male and female veterans from various military service branches and eras of service. The weekend itinerary includes art workshops, ice fishing, snowshoeing and stress relief workshops with the collaboration with the Borsheims, the ice fishing team, and the Vet Center.
