NASP ARCHERY - Gilman gets a team title; locals earn several high places
NASP ARCHERY
The host Gilman Pirate Archery Club claimed the high school team championship in the 3-D shoot and the Pirates and Medford Archery Club both earned high team placement throughout Saturday's annual Gilman Archery Tournament.
Gilman won the high school 3-D team title with a score of 1,640. Every shot mattered as the Pirates had a slim threepoint margin of victory over Stratford. Medford wasn’t far behind in third place at 1,614. Stratford won the middle school team title in the 3-D shoot with 1,552 points, 18 better than Gilman’s 1,534. Medford again took third. The Raiders totaled 1,415 points.
In the traditional bullseye portion of Saturday’s event, Gilman and Medford were third and fourth in the high school team standings with 3,292 and 3,239 points, respectively from their 12 scoring archers. Cadott and Marshfield were the top two teams.
Medford placed second in the middle school division (grades 6-8) of the bullseye shoot. The Raiders earned 2,962 points. Stanley-Boyd won the division comfortably with 3,129 points.
There were local division champions and challengers in each of the two tournaments.
In the bullseye competition, held in Gilman’s high school gym, Medford seventh grader Dylan Emmerich won the middle school boys division, topping a field of 88 entrants with his score of 284 out of a possible 300. Gilman’s Wyatt Stephens got third place, four points behind Emmerich, and Medford’s Karson Ecklund was fourth with 275 points.
Medford’s Wyllow Freudenthal, a fifth grader at Holy Rosary Catholic School, was a double winner in the girls elementary division (grades 4-5), taking the bullseye championship with a score of 262 and the 3-D title with a score of 260.
Gilman freshman Reece Weir was the girls runner-up in both high school shoots. In bullseye, her 30 shots totaled 282 points, one fewer than champion Rhyan Millard of Stratford. In the 3-D shoot, Weir earned 280 points to finish two behind Stratford’s Amanda Budtke.
Top 10 divisional finishers in the bullseye shoot included Mylie Stephens of Gilman, fourth in high school girls with a 282; Makii Austin Mallo of Gilman, sixth in high school boys with a 281; Kaysen Westaby of Gilman, second in elementary boys with a 250; Ryder Schleis of Gilman, seventh in elementary boys at 238, and Addison Lang of Gilman, fourth in elementary girls at 237.
Gilman’s Colton Lang was the middle school boys 3-D champion. He shot a 283 to top a field of 25. He was eight points ahead of runner-up Austin Bohman of Stratford. His teammate Wyatt Stephens was third with 274 points. Emmerich was fifth at 270. Gilman’s Kaysen Westaby (241) and Ryder Schleis (240) were the top two finishers among elementary boys and Addison Lang was second among elementary girls (234).
Among high school girls, Mylie Stephens was third with a 275, Gilman’s Alison Krizan was sixth at 272 and Medford’s Kadence Weix took eighth at 270. Dylann Brogan of Marshfield and Garrett Drexler of Stratford tied as high school boys champions with 293s, while Medford’s Ezra Hillebrand and Gilman’s Terran Schleis tied for third out of 31 entrants with 280s.
There were 438 registered archers in the bullseye shoot, 233 boys and 205 girls. The 3-D tournament drew 139 entrants, 78 boys and 61 girls.
