Margaret Hillert

Margaret E. Hillert, 82, Medford, formerly of Greenwood, passed away at Aspirus Care and Rehabilitation in Medford on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood. Rev. Elizabeth Bier will officiate, and burial will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Margaret Elisabeth Lichte was born on Aug. 12, 1942, in Greenwood, the daughter of Gerhardt E. and Ella A. (Tischer) Lichte. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in Greenwood area schools, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1960. Margaret was united in marriage to Walter F. Hillert on Aug. 12, 1962, at Christ Lutheran Church in Chili. They took over and farmed his family farm in Chili. They later divorced. In 1979, she moved to a home north of Loyal, where she lived for two years. In 1980, Margaret settled in Greenwood, where she attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and remained in Greenwood until entering Aspirus Care and Rehabilitation in Medford.

She had many interests, but especially loved plants, flowers, and reading. Margaret is survived by seven children: Rose Brunsell of Wisconsin Rapids, Barbara Hillert of Wisconsin Rapids, Jeannette Hillert of Medford, Patricia Hillert of Neillsville, Peggy Hillert of Neillsville, Dennis (Nanette) Hillert of Burlington, and Charles Hillert of Chili; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Allen Lichte of Greenwood; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Adam Brunsell; one sister, Bertha Bowdion; and one brother, Edward Lichte.
