Hornets sit poised to take the league championship

Rising to the top, the Cadott boys wrestling program has a dual conference record of 10-4 and is ready to bring home the title this season.

Jan. 23 Bloomer (W 2-0) The Hornets were off to Bloomer, for duals against Thorp-Owen-Withee and Bloomer-Colfax, where they came home with the shutout. Cadott claimed victory over Thorp, 77-0, and over Bloomer, 67-6.

“I am extremely proud of the team’s effort and excited to be competing for the conference championship with this young team,” said coach Josh Spaeth.

Jan. 25 Arcadia Tournament

Over the weekend, the Hornets were in action at Arcadia, with some of the grappers placing high. One of those, was sophomore Jon Phelps (150 pounds), who came in second, dropping his championship match with St. Croix Central’s Everett Knospe, by fall.

Freshman Ryker Moskiewicz (106) followed that with third place, winning over Zayden Sanchez, of Arcadia, in a 6-5 decision. Senior Kaleb Lodahl (120) also was third, after a win over Garret DeLong, St. Croix Central, with a 3-0 decision.

Coming away with fourth place, were junior Steven Williams (126), freshman Kellen Blanchette (132) and junior Mitchell Reineke (215), while freshman Max Davis (150) was fifth. Freshman Oliver Sudbrink (144), sophomore Owen Fasbender (157), sophomore Brock Webster (190) and junior Anthony Glenz (285) all placed sixth.

On the girls’ side, junior Iszy Sonnentag (114) took first place, capturing the win over Payten Craig, of Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau-Melrose-Mindoro, by fall. Sophomore Tessa York (120) also placed first, winning over Arcadia’s Heidi Hernandez Garsia, while senior Abigail Moss (138) also took first, with a win over Brookwood’s Katherine McElhose.

Senior Molli York (150) also placed first, with a win over freshman teammate Kaylee Stai (150), which led to Stai ending in third place.
