Anne Marie Fleegel
1978-2025
We were informed of the death of Anne Marie Fleegel, 46 years old, of Medford, who was called to heaven on Sunday, Jan. 12, after a hard fought battle with Cushing syndrome and adrenal cancer. Anne is survived by her husband, Dave Fleegel; children, Alexis, Hannah, Naomi, and Jacob, of Medford; parents, Michael and Debra (Petznick) Schaefer of Gilman; siblings, Patti Schaefer (Brian Edge) of Black Earth, Commander Crystal Schaefer of the USS Constitution in Boston, Mass., Michaela (Justin) Trenidad with children Penelope and Everett of Carlsbad, N.M., and David Schaefer with children Annabelle and Boone of Madison; sister-in-law, Penny (Tom) Vinnedge with children Davis and Sophia of Spencer; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Anne was preceded in death by her godfather and uncle, Steven Schaefer; aunt, Margean Schreiber; uncle, Danny Freimund; and cousins, Kristopher Kuck, Nicholas Petznick, and Diane Freimund.
Anne was born on July 2, 1978, in Stevens Point. She attended the Colby School District through 9th Grade and transferred to Medford in her sophomore year when her father became Manager of Taylor Electric. Anne graduated from Medford Area Senior High School in 1996. After completing studies at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in 1998, Anne took a job with Wausau Insurance, then Weathershield MFG. Anne married Dave Fleegel on Aug. 4, 2001, whom she met at age 16 while working at McDonald’s in Medford. Shortly after the birth of Alexis in 2004, she became an in-home daycare provider for her own children and others. Anne and Dave welcomed Hannah in 2005, Naomi in 2007, and Jacob in 2010. In 2011, the family purchased the Broadway Theatre where Anne helped in all facets of the business. Shortly after Jacob turned 4, she became a Teaching Assistant at the Medford Area Middle School working mostly with students in Special Education. In 2017, Anne became Executive Assistant to the Director of Special Education and Student Services in the Medford Area School District.
One of Anne’s most precious goals was to be a great mom. She not only succeeded in raising four amazing children of her own, she shared her love and care to everyone she met, especially the children. If there was a baby in the room, Anne would likely be found nearby and could entertain and calm the child with ease. Anne instilled in her four children the values of patience, commitment, selflessness, and compassion. Her energetic spirit and generosity were hallmarks of her character, leaving a lasting legacy that will be continued by her loved ones in living a life that matters, a life that makes a difference.
Anne was passionate about hiking and camping, enjoyed attending concerts by Home Free, playing games with family, and especially loved to attend her children’s events to celebrate their talents and accomplishments. She was strong in her faith and served many years as the Sunday School Director at Trinity Lutheran Medford. Anne was a current member of Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford.
A visitation is planned for 3 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home in Medford. Additional visitation time is scheduled for 9 a.m.-11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church of Abbotsford with the funeral service at 11 a.m. and a reception to follow. Pastor David Bruce will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Anne’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Anne’s memory to the family to be used for the Our Village Playground fund and a memorial scholarship for students aspiring to be educators in Special Education.
