Rep. Hurd, Rep. Summerfield take oathes of office

Representative Karen Hurd (R-Withee) took the oath of office Monday, marking the start of her second term in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Rep. Rob Summerfield (RBloomer) was sworn in for his fifth term in the State Assembly.

Due to legislative redistricting, Rep. Hurd was elected to serve the newly drawn 69th Assembly District for the 2025-2026 Legislative Session.

“I am humbled by the trust the citizens of the 69th District have placed in me to serve as their voice in the State Assembly,” said Rep. Hurd. “I am honored to work on behalf of them over the next two years.”

As announced last month, Rep. Hurd will serve on the legislature’s powerful Joint Finance Committee (JFC) this session. This committee is charged with crafting the biennial state budget and is the principal legislative body charged with the review of all state appropriations and revenues.

“I am excited for the incredible opportunity to serve on the Joint Finance Committee and have a hand in developing our state’s fiscal policies, including the state budget,” said Rep. Hurd. “I look forward to providing a rural perspective to the committee’s discussions and working with my colleagues to craft a budget proposal that funds our state’s priorities, spends tax dollars wisely, and provides tax relief for Wisconsin families.”

“I am honored to be sworn in today to represent the 68th Assembly District,” Summerfield said.

Rep. Summerfield was recently elected to the position of Majority Caucus Chair by his Assembly Republican colleagues for the new session. He was also named Vice-Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Energy & Utilities and will be serving on the Assembly committees on Assembly Organization, Housing & Real Estate, Rules, State Affairs, Tourism, Veterans & Military Affairs, and Health, Aging & Long-Term Care.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to be a voice for the Chippewa Valley down in Madison. I look forward to meeting with both familiar faces and with the many new constituents of the 68th Assembly District. Working hard to advance strong policies that support our area and the state as a whole will be my first priority.”

As always, Rep. Summerfield would like to encourage his constituents to reach out to his office with any staterelated questions or concerns. His office can be reached at (608) 237-9168 or at Rep.Summerfield@legis.wisconsin. gov.
