Genevieve Mae Seeger Genevieve Mae Seeger

1929-2024

Genevieve Mae Seeger of Jump River, took the hand of her waiting and loving husband on Nov. 20, 2024 and went Home to Heaven. She was only 95 years, ten months and seven days.

Genevieve was born on Jan. 13, 1929 to the late James and Esther (Nagel) Bromley in Jump River. She attended the Pioneer School east of Jump River and graduated from Hannibal High School.

She met Alton Seeger while roller skating and fell (literally) head over heels in love. They were married on Sept. 11, 1948. The couple moved around for a few years until returning to Jump River permanently. Over the course of their nearly 70 years together, they raised three daughters as well as the ensuing grandchildren and many of the neighborhood children whenever the need arose. It was the “go to” spot for potty training that had a 100% success rate within a week.

Her skills in sewing ranged from making doll clothes to wedding dresses, and dish towels to quilts. Her vegetable gardens would yield enough to help feed neighbors, usually after she had canned it so they wouldn’t have to do any extra work. Eventually her age and agility allowed her the excuse for a smaller garden and to just let the neighbors help themselves.

She loved looking through magazines for crafting ideas and would enlist Alton into cutting out the larger wooden pieces and she would paint them. If he did a good job he would be rewarded with fresh cookies and a bowl of ice cream.

Her true talent was her cooking. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t try to make. If it met with her approval, it earned a spot in one of her many handwritten recipe books and credit was always given to the original creator when warranted. She was so well known for her dishes that it led to her catering a variety of events from baby showers to funerals for over 40 years. Her smallest event was seven and the largest 650. She kept notes on each one and included some sort of memento if available to put with them. At one time the ceiling of her 16x12 sewing room was covered in paper wedding bells that she had collected over the years.

Genevieve was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2977, Lions Club, Community Center, Ladies Fire Auxiliary, and the last survivor of the Jump River Ladies Aid.

Her talents far exceeded what she considered herself as a typical “Domestic Engineer.” She made a lasting and lifelong impression on everyone she knew as well as anyone she met. She may not have been famous but she was definitely an icon and we will miss her dearly.

After Alton passed away in 2018, she began to experience her own health decline. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and kicked its butt to the curb. Unfortunately it had quite an impact on her heart and kidneys. She was forced to start dialysis so for convenience she moved to Menomonie to live with her daughter. Eventually her body just plain wore out and replacement parts were not available.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan (Robert) Plecko, Barbara Wiedrich and Michele Hendrickson; as well as six grandchildren, Jeremy (Paul) Vogel, Justin (Toni) Plecko, Becky Wiedrich, Landon (Tyvara) Webster, and Hope (fiancée John Newcomb-McMahon) Hendrickson; two great-grandchildren, Jordy and Kai Plecko; as well as many other cherished relatives and friends. Gen was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Bromley, Jr.; a granddaughter, Billie Jo Lena; sons-in-law, Bill Wiedrich and Dave Hendrickson; as well as many others.

The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to Liz Peer for her help in caring for her when she was still home, Menomonie Dialysis Center, Neighbors of Dunn County and Dunn County Transit for all their loving care, support and patience. She grew to think of them all as extended family and treated them as such, which included scolding when necessary.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on January 18 at the Christ Community Church in Jump River. No prior visitation is planned. A meal will be served immediately following at the Jump River Community Center. We encourage and look forward to having guests share their memories of her there.

We would also like to thank Plombon Funeral Home for their assistance.
