MEDFORD CURLING - Girls win two more, boys close vs. East
MEDFORD CURLING
Medford’s boys and girls curling teams appeared dominant through Tuesday’s home matchup against Wausau East but ended up with a split finish with the girls winning and the boys losing the tiebreaker.
The Medford girls won their game 11-3 capitalizing on four-point ends in the third and sixth ends. Medford girls scored one in the first end. East answered back taking advantage of having the hammer and getting two in the second end. Medford scored in the third and fourth ends to make the score 6-2. Wausau East scored their final point in the fifth end to make it 6-3. The Medford girls stopped any potential for a Wausau East rally with a four-point sixth end followed by another point in the seventh end to make the final score 11-3 after Wausau East conceded.
On the boys side, the Raiders appeared close to breaking a recent losing streak. They jumped out with three points in the first end, followed up by a point in the second end to lead 4-0.
Wausau East clawed its way back into the contest scoring two points in the third end and another point in the fourth end to make the score 4-3. Medford scored another point in the fifth end which was answered by a point for Wausau East in the sixth end.
Medford added to its lead with one point in the seventh end. In the eighth end, Wausau East scored two points to tie things up at 6-6. In extra ends, Wausau East got the point and the narrow win.
The Medford curling teams were on the road Thursday traveling to Marshfield to play the Tigers2.
The girls came home with a solid 10-2 win and continuing to improve their play. The boys didn’t fare as well as they continue to improve as individual players and as a team. They lost to Marshfield boys 9-4.
