Spencer girls defeat Nekoosa for 3rd win of season

In an away game Nov. 26, the Spencer Rockets varsity girls basketball team earned a win to improve to 3-0 on the season, not a bad way to start the season especially considering last year they were 6-19 on the whole and lost two of their first three games.
Although Spencer defeated Nekoosa by a solid 20 points last week, it wasn’t until the second half that the Rockets were able to pull away and show themselves to be the stronger team. Nekoosa put up 15 points in the first half, almost matching Spencer’s 17. In contrast, in the second half, the Rockets doubled their scoring output with 34, while Nekoosa maintained the status quo, scoring 16 points. That scoring differential led to the definitive 51-31 Spencer victory.
Spencer’s leading scorer was Alexa Weber, who put up 16 points, making six 2-pointers and four of her six free throws. Autumn Davis had the next highest point total, with 11. She completed a 3-pointer, two 2-pointers and went four-for-five from the line. Kaydence Plaskey picked up 7 points, including a 3-pointer. Ema Schultz scored 6, Hannah Schreiner 4, Montanna Kohls 4 and Carmen Krause 3 to round out scoring for the Rockets.
Overall, the Rockets were 15-for-24 from the charity stripe. Four players scored from beyond the arc: Kohls, Krause, Plaskey and Davis. The team had six fouls in the first half and 11 in the second. Nekoosa also struggled with fouls, committing six in the first half and 12 in the second.
