Greenwood School District to spread Christmas cheer through Santa Project
The Greenwood School District is doing its annual Santa Project again this year.
This project ensures that all students in the Greenwood School District receive at least one Christmas present during the holiday season.
“With over half our student population (in grades 7-12) being economically disadvantaged and knowing that the holiday season can be a little rough for some, we wanted to try and bring a little joy,” said Greenwood Middle/High School Dean of Students Jenni Mayenschein.
The Santa visit will take place on Dec. 20, the day before students are dismissed for Christmas break, and will include a few phases. Students will open a large, layered package as a class, with a different gift hidden under each layer of wrapping paper. The layered gifts range from $5 to $15 and from useful to fun. If a student uncovers a ticket, they get to select one of the gifts from under the tree, which are the next level price range. Finally, students will also be eligible for bigger ticket items through a random drawing. The school also provides more practical items like gift cards for groceries or cases of pizza for several families.
The project relies solely on donations, with the district issuing a letter every year requesting donations. Many businesses and individuals come together to provide gifts, which include products, goods and services, and gift certificates.
“We have a very generous community and surrounding communities that the students benefit greatly from,” said Mayenschein.
The district requests all donations be made by Friday, Dec. 13, so Santa’s helpers have time to wrap the gifts and have them ready to go by Dec. 20.
All donations are tax-deductible. If you’d like to donate towards the project, you can send a check to the Greenwood School District, memo: Santa Project, at P.O. Box 310, Greenwood, WI 54437-9330, or drop off donations at the high school office. Call 715-267-6101 for more information.
“Thank you for your consideration and continued support in sharing your strong sense of school, community and holiday spirit,” said Mayenschein.
