Albert R. Filas

1928-2024

Albert R. Filas, 96, of Lublin, died peacefully at Transitions in Thorp. He was born on Oct. 9, 1928 in Lublin to the late Roman and Minnie (Wojtowicz) Filas. Albert grew up on the family farm and attended area schools. He entered the U.S. Army in May of 1953. He was a Sergeant in the 11th Airborne out of Fort Benning, Ga. Al had 48 jumps as a Paratrooper. In 1956 he received an honorable discharge.

He then began his employment at the Illinois based Teletype Corporation as a Machinist and Gold Plater. When he retired he returned home to live on the family farm in Lublin.

Albert enjoyed spending time with family and entertaining them with stories of his life experiences. He spent many hours tending to his gardens and took enjoyment in planting trees.

Albert was proud of his Polish heritage and membership in the Lublin American Legion: Post 547.

He is survived by his brother, Louis (Kathleen) Filas of Cadott; and many nieces and nephews. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Walter the 1st, Ted, Leo, Walter the 2nd, Bruno and Leonard Filas; and his sisters, Loretta Filas, Bernice Dranginis, Estelle Criscione, Ann Sutton, Ruth Vick and Mary Matlak. A private graveside service will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Lublin.
