Riverview Park lights up the holidays this season
By Ginna Young Once the turkey leftovers have been stored away and the footballs games run out the clock, it’s time to ring in the Christmas season, which is what’s happening, Sunday, Dec. 1, at the log cabin pavilion at West Riverview Park in Cadott.
From 4-6 p.m., families can drop in to Light the Park With Santa, sponsored by the Cadott Lions Club and Butterstick Bakeshop.
“I have been working on an idea in my head for awhile now, that would use the pavilion at the park,” said coordinator Carrie Fetter. “It rarely gets used and it is such a cozy little spot.”
The lights turn on at 4 or by 4:15, lending that coziness Fetter imagines – somewhat like a Hallmark movie, with Santa by the stone fireplace in the log structure and carolers wandering around singing. There’s also free hot cocoa, donated by Cadott Kwik Trip, while vendors will set up with some gifts perfect for Christmas or any other occasion.
“The vendors are all geared toward items that make good gift ideas,” said Fetter.
Included in the selection, are handmade shopping bags/ totes; quilts; maple syrup, jam/jelly, porch pots, key chains/ tumblers and cookies. While there is a charge to purchase the items, it’s free for vendors to set up and families can get their photo taken with Santa (bring your own camera or cell phone).
“Family friendly that doesn’t have to be expensive,” said Fetter.
All and sundry are invited to attend for the lighting, then hang out and join in the holiday spirit.
“The Lions do all the work hanging the lights,” said Fetter, “and it is the perfect way to show some appreciation and let them see people enjoying them.”
