CCL November Monthly update

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, the staff at the Colby Community Library (CCL) wishes to thank patrons, volunteers, and the community for the tremendous support of the library and its programs. The public is invited to participate in the upcoming events.

On Wisconsin!

Patrons were able to show their “Brains and Brawn” skills in October as the CCL celebrated National Friends of the Library Month. Over 130 patrons were prize winners in the basketball shoot, football toss, or Wisconsin Trivia contest.

Become a member of the Friends group anytime to support events and programs at the CCL. A lifetime membership earns new members a free tote bag or t-shirt.

TGIF

The TGIF (Thank Goodness It’s Friday) class, “Make Your Own Leather Earrings,” will be Friday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. at the CCL. The event for adults, hosted by the Friends of the CCL, will accommodate 30 participants. There is a cost to the class, which includes instructions and supplies for three pairs of earrings. For those who will be attending, snacks and beverages are welcome.

FoodSculpture

Beginning November 11 through November 20, stop in at the CCL to vote on your favorite “FoodSculpture” from the 16 creative non-perishable food displays. Food trophies will be awarded to the top three viewers’ choices. All the donated food displays will be dismantled the week of Thanksgiving and delivered to the food pantries in Colby and Unity. Thrivent Action Teams helped financially support this event.

CES Art Show

Origami artwork by 4th grade Colby Elementary students will be on display at the CCL from November 4-15. On Thursday evening, Nov. 14, students, their families, and anyone interested in youth art are invited to an open house beginning at 6 p.m. honoring the young artists.

Craft and Hobby

Craft and Hobby will be Friday, Nov. 15, beginning at 4 p.m. Bring crafts of your choice to work on and food and drink as desired. This is an evening for adults to work on individual projects.

Book Clubs

The CCL book clubs will meet Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The discussion of the book, “The Water Keeper” by Charles Martin, will be led by Amy Becker in the evening.

Veteran’s Month

In honor of Veteran’s Day, books and movies featured in November will honor the military in both the adult and children’s sections. Check out the selection for educational reading and viewing.

Prevent Fraud

“Fraud: Protecting Yourself” seminar will be presented on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. in the Community Room at the Colby Community Library. The presenter, Rochley Gross, will highlight protective measures to take to avoid fraud and scams. Like all library programs, this one is non-commercial in nature and for informational purposes only. It is free and no registration is required.

CCHD Site

The Colby Community Library is a Clark County Health Department (CCHD) site for the distribution of free COVID test kits, sharps containers and drug disposal kits. Pick them up during regular library hours.

On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Clark County Health Department will be hosting a class on “Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults and Caregivers” beginning at 10 a.m. in the CCL’s Community Room. Lunch will be included. Call the CCHD to register at (715)743-6517.

Thanksgiving Crafts

Craft kits are bagged up for Thanksgiving creativity to take and make at home. Parents, grandparents, caregivers, and children are welcome to select two crafts per visit.

Story Times

Story Times are Friday mornings at 10 a.m. for children ages 2-5 and a caregiver. Stories, songs, rhymes and crafts are offered in a family-friendly environment. Pick up a schedule of dates from now through December.
