In an intense match-up Oct. 18, it was winner takes all between the Lake Holcombe Chieftains and Cornell Chiefs, as the two met for football on Lake Holcombe’s field. The programs had a chilly, but clear night for the game, with stands packed with onlookers cheering from both sides.
It was a back and forth affair at first, but the Chieftains pulled away and held on, to take a 34-14 victory. Lake Holcombe has one more game left to play this season, but for Cornell, their year is done, as they remain winless overall and in the league.
On the night, the Chieftains ended with 373 yards – 281 of those in passing, with the remaining 92 in rushing.
Lake Holcombe completed five touchdown passes from sophomore Emmit Johnson, to senior Chase Burgess, as well as completing two extra point conversions, one with a rush from sophomore Connor Kane and the other a pass from Johnson to sophomore Kadyn Jones.
Kane led his team with 14 tackles, followed by junior Tommy Kane, with 12, while C. Kane also had an interception.
