Senior Card Group

The Senior Citizens card group met on Oct. 10 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Two games of Sheepshead were played. Norbert Lake won first place and Dave Perrodin came in second in the first game. Andy Hoef won first and Alvira Henrichs came in second in the second game.

Low score was Tom Ellenbecker.

Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.

College note

Abigail Van Rixel, a senior majoring in early childhood and elementary education at Concordia University in Mequon, was named to the spring honors list for the 2023-24 academic year. To be eligible for the honor, students must achieve a minimum 3.60 GPA and complete at least 12 undergraduate credits.

Medicare presentation

Adults are invited to the Athens Branch Library on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., for a free class on maintaining Medicare coverage. Bettina Rinard, elder benefit specialist with the Aging and Disability Resource Center, will will cover the difference between Medicare Parts C and D, things to consider when choosing your best option, how and when to change plans, and how to avoid common scams.

The Athens Farmers Market is held every Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Memorial Park.

EDGAR

Bingo at St. Stephen

St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 424 N. Third Ave., Edgar, will host bingo in the church basement on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be served. If you need a ride or have questions, call Mark at 715348-5802 or Colleen at 715-5718277.

Computer basics class

Adults are invited to a computer class on how to use a mouse and keyboard at Edgar Branch Library on Monday, Oct. 21, from 1:30-3 p.m. Participants will learn how to use a mouse and keyboard and cover some of the basics they need in order to get online and connect with friends and family. MCPL will provide a laptop and mouse for each participant but you're welcome to bring your own if you have them. This event is free and open to the public. Lions dinner for seniors

The Edgar Lions Club will be sponsoring a complimentary chicken dinner for Edgar senior citizens on Thursday, Oct. 17. All meals will be in carry-out containers and should be picked up between 5 and 6 p.m. at the Edgar Fire Station.

Needlework Social Hour

Adults are invited to craft and chat at a Needlework Social Hour on Monday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Edgar Branch Library. Whether it’s knitting, crocheting, embroidery or mending, everyone is welcome to bring their projects and chat. Maybe you'll learn some tips or tricks or even make new friends. ‘Cherished Chapels’

Gary Gisselman of the Marathon County Historical Society will present “Cherished Chapels: The Churches of Marathon County” at the Marathon City Branch Library on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This program provides an overview of some of the historic churches across Marathon County, and the ethnic communities that built them. The Marathon High School class of 1969 is holding its 55th reunion on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Marathon City Sports Center, 1200 WI-107, Marathon City. I Spy bottles

Stratford High School will be performing Roald Dahl's “Matilda The Musical, Jr.” on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. Tickets are sold at the door.
