Farm Progress Days Next Week
A new city called Tent City is rapidly taking shape just south of Stratford on State Highway 97. And a city it will be – with its own utilities, streets, education center and shopping district.
Tent City is a part of Farm Progress Days, the second largest agricultural exhibition in the world – and by far the largest in Wisconsin. About 100,000 visitors are expected at the Kenneth and Richard Leick farm July 30, 31, and August 1.

School board approves $14,000 in projects
In a special meeting Monday night, Stratford school board members approved $14,404.90 in projects. Projects include putting in a student patio on the south side of the library addition. The patio will be 30 feet square and three sides will have benches made from the bricks left over from the new addition. Another project will be horns in the elementary lunchroom and kitchen so that students and staff can hear messages over the intercom.

New School To Go To Referendum Vote
A good crowd attended the meeting of the schoold district at the high school auditorium Monday evening, probably because of the interest in the proposed new school building for the district. A referendum election on the building will be part of the fall election.
At the annual meeting it was decided that the salary of the board members would be raised from $12.00 to $15.00 per member. Elwood Mason presided at the meeting.

Bowling Winners
Sandy Koeller, Julie Essleman, Jayne Habeck, Tammi Wesie and Carol Heier, all of Athens, recently competed in the Wisconsin junior boys and girls state bowling tournament at Fond du Lac. Out of 250 girls teams, they placed 20th. Last year the same girls with the exception of Marlene Writz bowling for Julie Essleman also competed and won trophies for 10th place when they bowled at Menasha. Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Butch) Ewan provided transportation and accompanied the girls both years.
Two dentists plan clinic at Edgar
Dr. Gary Conder and Dr. Bob Armstrong, dentists now practicing in Medford, met with members of the Edgar Chamber of Commerce, Thursday night to discuss the possibility of opening a dental clinic in Edgar.
Larry Boehm, owner of the Boehm Insurance building, met with the dentists and a dental supply representative regarding remodeling of the insurance building to house the dental clinic

Tournament held at Edgar diamond
The Edgar Little League baseball tournament was held at the Edgar Ball Diamond over the weekend of July 24 and 25. The American Legion team took first place in the minor league with the VFW team placing second. The Schueller Plumbing team ran away with first place in the major league tournament with the Werner Insurance team getting second.
Class reunion held
The Marathon High School Class of 1949 held their 50th reunion recently. A tour of the Marathon Cheese Corp. plant was first on the schedule followed by a gathering at the Memories Ballroom. The group consisted of 18 students and guests. Only three classmates did not attend the event.
1974 – Loskot and His Dairy Boosting Truck
Loddie Loskot, one of Wisconsin Dairyland’s strongest boosters will be at Farm Progress Days as a member of the executive committee. He has been touring central Wisconsin with his decorated truck, boosting the second largest Farm Show in the world. Mr. Loskot is chairman of the committee “developing the Marathon County story” that will be on display at the Farm Progress Days south of Stratford.

1999 – Summerfest camp
Marathon high school youths attended a one week Christian Camp at UW-Stout. Attending were: front to back, Terese Schalis, Dana Dallman, Ben Blume, Tonya Saler, Kim Bauer, Katie Straub, Kaci Ahles, Nicole Pilgrim, Krystal Kleinschmidt, Amy Adamski, Lauralyn Blume, Connie Martin, Ashley Hohensee, Steffenie Hornung, Lizzie Wilichowski, Barb Ceranski, Counselor, Sarah Ceranski and Julie Krautkramer.
