By Ginna Young It was off to Athens, Oct. 3, for the Cadott cross country program, with the level of competition impressive among the 16 teams. The boys placed sixth on the day, with the girls claiming ninth.

“The weather was cool and we enjoyed great running weather,” said coach Dan Yeager.

On the boys’ side, sophomore Beau Steinke again placed high, finishing sixth, in a time of 17:06.6, with a new personal best, followed by junior Saibyn Will, in 36th (18:41.4), while sophomore Kaden Roen was 55th (19:16), also with a new best. Freshman Jacob Pilgrim came next, in 60th place (19:23.7), while sophomore Jon Phelps came up with a new personal record, placing 65th (19:47.8) and sophomore Klay Handrick ended in 110th (23:24.8), running his fastest time this season.

For the girls, senior Cortney Weggen came in 31st (22:32.2) for a new best, with senior Lyla Weggen a few steps behind, in 34th (22:44.3), also with a new best, while senior McKenna Steinke ran for a new best of nearly two minutes, in 59th place (25:03.8) and senior Mia Weggen placed 61st (25:07.3).

Freshman Saffron Riley-Starck ran her best race of the season, shaving off over two minutes of time, placing 79th (26:28.9), while sophomore Tessa York was 96th (28:07.4), with senior Adrianna Goodman right behind, for 97th (28:07.6).

“With mere weeks left in the season, we are excited to see what is to come,” said Yeager.
