LG runners compete at Owen-Withee
Loyal-Greenwood (LG) runners traveled to Owen-Withee High School Oct. 1 for a race, as they moved into the final third of their season.
With a smaller field of runners than their last couple of races, there were less competitors to spur the LG athletes on, but that also made it easier for them to climb the rankings. On the LG girls’ side, Summer Smith took fourth place out of 44 runners with a time of 21:30. Bailey Eckes finished 14th with a time of 23:39. Coming in 19th was Noelle Teschner, who had a time of 24:34. Andrya Wilke placed 43rd, with no time provided.
On the boys’ side, there were even fewer runners. Twenty-eight young men ran the race. Andrew Lavengood was the first to finish for LG, taking fourth place with a time of 18:19. Lucas Nielsen took seventh place at 19:41. Lincoln Smith came after that, finishing 16th with a time of 21:32. Rounding out the LG squad was Mason Kohnert, who took 22nd place with a time of 24:30.
There are now only three races remaining in the season, unless runners qualify for state. Those races are Oct. 12 at Arcadia, Oct. 19 at Levis Mound (conference) and Oct. 26 at Westfield Area Middle/High School (sectionals).
Spencer runners competed at Athens last week, with individuals finishing in the middle and end of the pack of runners. At left, Savannah Wilke makes her way through the course in the Athens park. Above, Tahneya Anderson sprints to the finish against Phillips runner Suzane Ludwig. Anderson beat out Ludwig by six tenths of a second to take 62nd. At right, Camdyn Vogel takes his final steps across the finish line as he completes the 5,000-meter course.
