September 29, 1999 One-third of wells tested in western part of the county are contaminated
Nearly one-third of 45 private wells in western Taylor County are contaminated with coliform bacteria, County Conservationist Steve Oberle said this week. Oberle said 45 families recently participated in a drinking water testing program for their private wells. “The results were mostly good,” he said, “but some residents learned of possible health concerns about their water.”
50 Years Ago October 3, 1974 City, County Population Shows Gain
Preliminary 1974 Wisconsin population estimates released recently by the department of administration, Madison, show a gain in county population, including the city of Medford. County clerk Roger Emmerich has received statistics giving the county a head count of 18,175, showing a 1,117 gain over the 1970 census which was 16,958.

City School Board Reduces Budget For 1949-50 Term Following a limited discussion, the city council expressed complete satisfaction with the 1949-50 school budget by giving it a unanimous vote of acceptance at a regular council meeting Tuesday evening.
All members of the city governing body were present when Mayor A. A. Cherney opened the meeting.

Burglars enters Medford High School early yesterday morning, about one o’clock. They did a lot of glass breaking in making their way from room to room, and opened drawers boxes, etc., in the school library, Principal Bachhuber’s office, and Miss Kevill’s room, but took nothing of greater value than a couple of Eversharp pencils.

September 30, 1899 Two Creameries Will Soon be in Operation by Little Black and Medford Farmers
A new creamery is being built on the southwest quarter of section 6 town of Little Black, on land owned by J. Wieldn, by a stock company composed of farmers in that vicinity. The building, machinery, and outfit complete will cost $3,200.00, and if the farmers secure the worth of their money they will doubtless have the best creamery in this section of Wisconsin.
