State superintendent stresses importance of student belonging, investing in public schools
BRIAN WILSON/THE STAR NEWS A camera crew from Japan was busy setting up in a corner of The Star News office on September 25. The crew from broadcast giant NHK was in the area recording a segment on Wisconsin being a battleground state in the upcoming presidential election. In addition to visiting The Star News they spoke with a number of other community members and attended the Medford Area Senior High School homecoming football game on September 27.

The top 30 essays were selected from among all 8th graders at Medford Area Middle School. Student essays placing 16 to 30 received a $20 Chamber Gift Certificate and recognition certificate along with a laminated copy of their essay. Reshaping the rubric
Jacob and Daniel Nagel were joined by members of The Chamber, the Gilman Development Foundation and representatives from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Hickory Haven Apartments in Gilman. The owners renovated and converted the former nursing home facility into a mixedsize apartment complex with seven different styles of apartments ranging from a 600 square foot studio apartment to a 1,400 unit with three bedrooms and two baths.
