Hornets topple Orioles, before big wins at tourney

Cadott’s volleyball program was on a roll over the week, as they faced six opponents, claiming five wins.
Sept. 24 vs. Stanley-Boyd (W 3-2)
First up on the week, was rival Stanley-Boyd, who came to call in a conference showdown for Homecoming. The Orioles meant business, taking the opening set, 25-20, but Cadott wasn’t going down without a fight, coming back to win the next sets, 25-22 and 25-23.
Stanley-Boyd made one last effort and took the fourth set, 25-17, but the Hornets would not be denied the victory, winning the fifth set, 15-13.
“The girls played very aggressive and composed tonight,” said coach Lynn Schreiner. “When the matches got tight or tough, there was little panic.”
Junior Haley Mathison ended the night with 24 kills, 14 digs and 4 blocks, followed by senior Kasey Moldrem, with 15 kills and 2 blocks. Junior Karlee Davis came away with 43 assists, 2 aces and 11 digs, while senior Rilei Weeks had 32 digs.
“There was a lot of mental toughness tonight, which was amazing to see,” said Schreiner.
Sept. 28 vs. Stratford (L 0-2)
The Hornets were then in action at Abbotsford, for a weekend tournament, where they went 4-1. They faced off first with Stratford, who claimed the sets, 25-14 and 2517.
Sept. 28 vs. Rosholt (W 2-0)
Cadott then played Rosholt, winning in two sets, 25-18 and 25-14.
Sept. 28 vs. Abbotsford (W 2-0)
Next up, was the host team, who was no match for
Cadott, as they took the victory, 25-20 and 25-15.
Sept. 28 vs. Loyal (W 2-1)
They then went up against Loyal, taking the first set, 2517, before Loyal claimed a second-set win, 25-13, but the Hornets weren’t finished and won in the third set, 15-10.
Sept. 28 vs. Spencer (W 2-0)
Last up, was Spencer, who fell to the Hornets, 25-12 and 25-13.
Mathison again led, with 45 kills, 6 aces, 32 digs and 5 blocks, while Moldrem notched 29 kills and 2 assists. Davis racked up 83 assists, 4 aces and 18 digs, with Weeks adding 30 digs and 3 aces.
