CCL to offer a variety of games, classes, activities in October

Friends Month

October is National Friends of Libraries Month. The Friends of the Colby Community Library (CCL) group plays a vital role in supporting the CCL with time, talent, and treasure. Consider joining to meet community-minded people and to show your support of the CCL, either as an individual, family, or sponsor member. For the best deal, become a lifetime member for only $50 and choose a free canvas bag or T-shirt. Dues are collected at each level of membership; contact the library for costs.

Brains or Brawn

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1, play the “Wisconsin Brains or Brawn” game at the CCL. When checking out materials, the cardholder may choose to use their brain to answer a Wisconsin trivia question or brawn to shoot a basket or toss the football. Winners will select a prize from carts of Wisconsin-themed merchandise. Note: One win per cardholder during the month of October. The game will continue until prizes are gone. This is for all ages. This promotion is sponsored by the Friends of the CCL.

Adult Classes

Registration continues through October 4 for the Freeform Wisconsin Mosaic class to be held Saturday, October 19 at the CCL. Hosted by the Friends of the CCL, this adult class is $55 for instruction and supplies (non-refundable). Call the library to register and make arrangements to pay prior to the class.

Registration begins Monday, Oct. 7, for “Make Your Own Leather Earrings” class on Friday, November 8 at 6 p.m. at the CCL. The event for adults, hosted by the Friends of the CCL, has a non-refundable fee of $30 for instruction and supplies to make three pairs of earrings. Snacks and beverages are welcome. Register by visiting the library or calling 715-223-2000. The registration fee needs to be paid one week after signing up. Class is limited to 30 participants.

Flu Shot Clinic

The Clark County Health Department will be at the CCL on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a flu shot clinic from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Please be ready to provide insurance information.

Service Project

Calling all service minded people to join in the Maddie Thums Memorial Sew-a-thon and Make-a-Difference Day (MADD) on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sewists are needed for Maddie Day to sew items for the Marshfield Medical Center (ice bag covers, developmental hearts, and procedure doll gowns) and the Colby Community Library (baby bibs, burp cloths, and pillowcases). The MADD project this year will be a collection to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace: NEW twin-sized bed sheets, mattress pads, comforters, and pillows are needed. Homemade quilts are welcome; the ideal size is 60 inches by 80 inches.

Adult Challenge

Remember to be reading books and watching movies checked out at the CCL and filling out the BINGO cards for the adult/teen reading challenge. BINGO cards are due Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. to be in the drawing for Abby/Colby Chamber Gift certificates.

Book Clubs

The CCL book club will meet Tuesday, October 15 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to discuss “Horse” by Geraldine Brooks. At the evening club, Sandy Larson is the discussion leader.

Craft and Hobby

Craft and Hobby night for adults is scheduled for Friday, October 18 beginning at 4 p.m. in the RCU Community Room at the CCL. Participants can work on individual projects or can assist with items needed for upcoming library programs.

Story Time

Friday morning weekly story times begin on October 4 at 10 a.m. in the Children’s STEAM room at the CCL. Children, ages 2-5, and an adult are invited to hear stories and poems, sing songs, and create crafts. If you are interested in joining the literary fun with Mrs. Jean, contact the library. There are schedules available for the fall/winter session.

Take and Make Crafts

Take and Make bags are available for young crafters each month at no cost. Autumn and friendly Halloween crafts are featured in October.

Trick or Treat

Visit the Colby Community Library on Thursday, Oct. 31, for Trick or Treat fun. Pick up treats starting at noon until 7 p.m. A variety of Halloween non-candy treats will be available.

Autumn Hours

The Colby Community Library’s autumn hours are M/W/F 9-5 and TU/TH noon-7. The library is closed on Saturday and Sunday during the autumn and winter months. We continue to assist patrons with curbside. Call 715-2232000 to schedule a pick up during open hours.
