Trident swimmers show competitive team spirit

A pre-season dual meet saw the Lake Holcombe- Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer swimmers hosting Black River Falls, Aug. 29, with the final score in favor of the visitors, 10066. Out of that, the Tridents’ JV scored 66 of those points.

The meet began with second and fourth place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay A Team of juniors Megan DeWitt, Liv Repka and Abby Fye, and senior Sarah Allard, and Team B, which consisted of juniors Willow Peterson and Kiara Howard, and sophomores Sidney Heath and Brooklyn Adisek.

Next, came the 200-yard individual freestyle, which went well for the Tridents, with sophomore Nayeli Schilling finishing first; Adisek in fourth and Howard in fifth. In the 200-yard individual medley, Allard took a second place finish, with senior Alyxandria Lunemann finishing in fourth.

In the JV 50-yard freestyle, first and second place were separated by .4 of a second, with Howard finishing first and senior Ella Burr in second. In the varsity 50-yard freestyle, Heath took second overall and Peterson was fifth.

The 100-yard butterfly also saw good marks, with Lunemann finishing second and Schilling in third. In the JV 100-yard freestyle, Peterson finished first, with Burr coming in second. The varsity 100-yard freestyle was another close race, with Fye finishing in second and Repka finishing in fourth.

The 500-yard freestyle came to a close race for second and third places, with DeWitt in third and Heath ending fourth. The varsity 200-yard freestyle relay of Allard, Lunemann,] Schilling and Fye, came down to hand’s length of a finish, where the Tridents took second place. In the 100-yard backstroke, DeWitt finished second and Adisek finished third.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Repka came in third. The final event of the night was the 400yard freestyle relay, with Team A of Fye, Dewitt, Schilling and Allard claiming first place, and the B team of Lunemann, Repka, Adisek and Heath in third.

“The Trident team was missing some of the varsity team members this meet, which made a great opportunity for the junior varsity to step up and score some points,” said coach Whitney Hanson. “Trident coaches were very pleased with the competitive spirit and sportsmanship on both sides. It was great to see the teams support one another.”
