John Tereshko

1940-2024

John Tereshko, 84, of Gilman, died at home with his family by his side under the care of Hope Hospice. He was born on Jan. 31, 1940 in Milwaukee to the late Frank and Fanny (Lukashewich) Tereshko. John grew up there and graduated from Milwaukee West High in 1958. He went on to UW LaCrosse and received his Bachelor’s degree in education. John was united in marriage to Marcia Falkowski on June 10, 1978 and they were blessed with two children, Steven and Susan.

John worked for the school districts of New London in 1963 and Franklin in 1964 before settling in Gilman and working there from 1965-1998. He was the Athletic Director for 25 years, coached baseball for 22 years, basketball for 10 years, cross country for 22 years and officiated for 35 years.

John was also involved in his community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served on the school board for four years, and the village board for 16 years. John enjoyed bowling and playing softball, and in his later years his greatest joy was golf.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his son, Steven of Wausau; his daughter, Susan; one sister, Fanny Tereshko; a brother-in-law, Elmer Crowbridge; and had the honor of being the Godfather for Jacob Goble and Patrick Falkowski. John is further survived by his nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his uncles, Mike and John Lukashewich; and his sister, Helen Crowbridge.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father Joseph Stefancin officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service with a 9 a.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary. Plombon Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements.

A huge thank you to the staff of Hope Hospice for all the care they provided John and his family. Also appreciation to all the neighbors, friends and family for the cards, food and visits you shared with John during his brief illness.
