Jerry was born Jan. 27, 1934 in Medford; son of the late Arthur and Christine (Bach) Ross. He grew up in the Medford area, alongside his 10 siblings. He attended local schools and graduated from Medford Area Senior High in 1953.

Following high school, Jerry proudly joined the military, serving in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958, which included a tour in Korea. In his three years of active duty, he was awarded the Expert Badge (Carbine) and the Good Conduct Medal. After serving his country, he married Bonita “Bonnie” J. Anderson on Nov. 21, 1959. He was a lifelong learner and was sure to build a variety of skills, which included woodworking as well as being able to fix things for himself and others.
