Tigers easily outpace the Red Raiders at home

Stratford’s varsity boys track and field squad enjoyed some home cooking on Monday night by wining the Marawood Conference meet on its new home track. Stratford easily beat runner-up Marathon, 138 to 96-1/2 points, to capture its second straight Marawood Conference championship.

Edgar finished just behind Marathon with 96 points followed by Athens in fourth with 82. Edgar junior Teegan Streit was awarded the Marawood Conference boys MVP and Nate Heeg of Stratford won the conference boys Coach of the Year award.

Stratford sophomore Jett Schoenherr won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes on Monday. Kohlbe Weisenberger of Edgar took second place in the 100-meter dash and Parker Mathwich of Marathon was second in the 200-meter dash.

Junior Ryan Peel of Athens won the pole vault with 13 feet. Junior Jacob Smith of Marathon took second place in the pole vault with 11 feet, nine inches and Athens freshman Riley Schulz-Becker was third with 11 feet, six inches.

Stratford senior Benjamin Zuelke took second place in the high jump with five feet, 10 inches. Stratford junior Peyton Glenn won the long jump with 20 feet, five inches and Coltan Breit of Stratford was second with 20 feet, 2-1/2 inches.

Teegan Streit of Edgar won the triple jump with 43 feet, 3/4 inches. Stratford senior Connor Weigel took second place in the triple jump with 41 feet, 11-3/4 inches and Edgar sophomore Leyton Schuett was third with 39 feet, 10-1/2 inches.

Athens senior Aidan Janke won the discus with 157 feet, nine inches which is an Athens school record. Stratford junior Koehler Kilty took third place in the discus with 139 feet, six inches. Janke also won the shot put with 53 feet, one inch. Junior Karter Butt of Edgar took second place in the shot put with 44 feet, one inch and Kilty was third with 43 feet, five inches.

Teegan Streit won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.96 seconds and Griffin Treankler of Marathon was second in 16.08. Teegan Streit also won the 300-meter hurdles in 41.76 seconds and Treankler was second in 41.86.

Athens senior Connor Sheahan won both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs. He took second place in the 800-meter run.

Weigel of Stratford took second place in the 400-meter dash and Weisenberger of Edgar was third. Marathon senior Drake Carlson took first place in the 100-meter dash wheelchair, 800-meter run wheelchair and 1,600-meter run wheelchair.

Marathon’s 4x400-meter relay team that includes Parker Mathwich, Levi Krautkramer, Griffin Treankler and Mathew Annis won the event. Stratford’s 4x100-meter relay team of Payton Glenn, Coltan Breit, Austin O’Neil and Jett Schoenherr won the event.

Stratford’s 4x800-meter relay squad of Cree DeFoe, Ethan Heeg, Lance Krieg and Garrett Zuelke won that event.

Marathon girls are second

The Marathon girls track and field team took second place behind champion Wausau Newman at Monday’s Marawood Conference track meet in Stratford. Newman Catholic had just over 103 points and Marathon was runner-up with 95. The Edgar girls finished third with just over 93 points while the Athens girls were sixth with 60.

Ava Ford of Athens won the pole vault with nine feet while her teammate, Malaina Telschow, tied with Alisha Blenker of Marathon for second place with eight feet, three inches each. Katlyn Schreiner of Athens took second place in the high jump with four feet, 11 inches.

Edgar senior Morgan Schnelle won the long jump with five feet, 7-1/4 inches. Katlyn Schreiner of Athens won the triple jump with 34 feet, six inches while Emily Rundle of Stratford took second place with 33 feet, 3-3/4 inches.

Kyra Anderson of Edgar won the discus with 110 feet, nine inches while Alonna Haines of Athens finished third with 102 feet. Athens freshman Sy’ Rih Hartwig won the shot put with 36 feet, 10 inches. Edgar senior Amber Skrzypcak won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.81 seconds.

Grace Kahon of Marathon took second place in the 100-meter dash in 12.94 seconds and Morgan Schnelle of Edgar was third in 12.95. Schnelle took second place in the 300-meter hurdles in 48.89 seconds. Schnelle placed second in the 200-meter dash in 26.69 seconds while Kahon was third in 27.27.

Stratford sophomore Kayla Casperson took third place in the 3,200-meter run. Marathon’s 4x100-meter relay team of Alisha Blenker, Jersey Lobner, Lindsay Putnam and Grace Kahon won the event.
