Loyal girls take 2nd in Stratford, boys take 10th

The Loyal girls track and field team has taken the second-place spot for the second time this past week after competing at the Stratford Invitational May 4. The Loyal boys took 10th place.

In order to earn points for their team, an athlete had to place in the top eight for their event.

Loyal girls taking first in their events included Alyssia Zvolena, who won the high jump with a jump of 5’1”; Sheila Tellock, who won the pole vault at 9’6”; and the 4x100m relay team, which had the fastest time of 50.71. Team members were Leah Scherer, Tellock, Addysen Wolf and Aubre Robida.

Other Loyal girls results were as follows: Robida, 3rd, 100m dash, 13.39; Scherer, 3rd, 200m dash, 27.23; Wolf, 4th, 200m dash, 27.51, 4th, high jump, 4’8”; Autumn Zvolena, 3rd, high jump, 4’8”; Shalisha Buchanan, 4th, shot put, 29’5”; Olivia Nikolai, 5th, 100m hurdles, 18.70, 5th, pole vault, 7’6”; Summer Smith, 5th, triple jump, 29’10.5”; Maci Bogdonovich, 6th, 400m dash, 1:12.51; Autumn Zvolena, 6th, 800m run, 2:48.52; Gwen LaMarr, 7th, 100m hurdles, 19.40; and Molly Zvolena, 7th, triple jump, 29’1”.

Also, the Loyal girls 4x200m relay team took 2nd with a time of 1:49.40. Team members were Scherer, Tellock, Wolf and Robida. The 4x800m relay team came in third at 11:23.57, with the team consisting of Autumn Zvolena, Noelle Teschner, Alexis Meyer and Summer Smith. The 4x400m relay team took fifth at 5:07.90, with team members Noelle Teschner, Alexis Meyer, Autumn Zvolena and Bogdonovich.

The Loyal girls finished with 103 points, second to Edgar which had 115.5 points. Other team scores were: Stratford 99.5, Assumption 90, Colby 88, Athens 62.5, Owen-Withee 42.5, Pittsville 41, Columbus Catholic 21, Auburndale 15.5, Spencer 8 and Greenwood 3.5.

On the boys’ side for Loyal, the highest placing achieved was second place. That went to Roby Beranek in the shot put, who had a distance of 45’2”. He also took sixth in the discus at 117’4”. Connor Genteman finished third in the 1600m run at 4:38.10 and fourth in the 800m run at 2:10.95. Parker Smith took third in the 300m hurdles at 45.51 and fifth in the high jump at 5’2”.

Other results for the Loyal boys included: Peyton Tsai, 6th, high jump, 5’0”; Bryce Deegan, 7th, triple jump, 37’2”; and the 4x400m relay team of Genteman, Rory Hanson, Parker Smith and Deegan, which took 6th at 3:54.18.

The Loyal boys finished with 39 points, putting them in 10th place. Other team scores were: Stratford 117.5, Edgar 99, Colby 70, Owen-Withee 68, Athens 65, Spencer 59, Auburndale 56, Pittsville 50, Assumption 40, Columbus Catholic 28 and Greenwood 9.5.

Aubre Robida sprints in the 100m dash at Stratford. She took third in that event.
