Monica Wolf
On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, Monica Ann (Bangart) Wolf, a loving wife and mother of 15 children, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Monica (Tootsie) was born on July 14, 1937, to Tony and Mercedes (Kloss) Bangart. She attended St. Andrew’s Parochial School in Rozellville. In the early 1950s, Monica worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital. On Nov. 1, 1955, she married the love of her life, Norman Wolf. Together they owned and operated a small farm and Wolf’s Sawmill until 1982. They were members of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Loyal, where Monica used her beautiful voice in the choir. To sing “Amazing Grace” came easy to her, as it was her favorite song. She also donated extra time to help with any special occasion. Monica devoted her life to her husband, raising their children, and teaching them lifelong lessons through God and prayer. She had a quick wit, a great smile, a huge heart and was extremely kind and compassionate, which resonated in her living legacy and her family.
She had many hobbies which included playing the washboard, stump fiddle and accordion, and singing “You are my Sunshine.” She hung out at the racetrack with Norm in her younger years, and crocheted blankets, Santa dolls, girl dolls and tons of beer hats that are still worn around the state. She put a lot of love and pride into sewing stilt walking outfits, that were worn in the parades, for Steady Eddy and all his children. She had a love for flower gardens of any kind, especially yellow roses, and a large veggie garden that was shared not only on the table but by the entire neighborhood. She made turtle soup, canned venison, fish fries and baked goods, that were smelled from miles away. Short trips to go fishing in her sons’ ponds weekly for their supper were never unheard of. She enjoyed bowling, Sheepshead, pool, casinos, and barhopping with her daughters on Mother’s Day weekend, which brought out her silliness. Norman took her on many trips that included flying to Hawaii and driving through 49 of the 50 states. They also drove through most of the Canadian providences. Deer, turkey, bird watching and squirrely squirrels out her front and back window brightened her day.
In 2000, they moved to Spencer. Monica was a member of Christ the King Church in Spencer.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Norman; and 14 children, Joseph (Debi)Wolf, Medford, Marlene (John) Holdal, Marshfield, Lorraine (David) Deegan, Loyal, Edward (Annmarie) Wolf, Spencer, Theresa (Devery) Hilt, Stratford, Kay (Keith) Raatz, Spencer, Lyle (Julie) Wolf, Medford, Donna (Robert) Olson, Spencer, Debra (Jody) Brecht, Loyal, Tina (Mike) Berres, Loyal, Cindy (Brian) Benz, Loyal, Daniel (Jessica) Wolf, Greenwood, Barbara (Kevin) Dampier, Park Falls, and William (friend Melody Best) Wolf, Medford. She is further survived by 38 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren, along with many others who called her their second mom or grandma! All these she touched dearly and loved. Friends and family called her “Tootsie.” Christmas, the color baby blue, and yellow roses were her favorites. We will miss her more than you can put into words.
She is also survived by siblings: Marilyn Brumbaugh, Darlene (Jan) Harmon, Donald Bangart, and Charlie (Judy) Bangart and Jane (Dennis) Pankratz; and inlaws, Jenny Bangart and Bob Aschebrock, and many nieces and nephews.
She is further survived by her brothers- and sisters-in-laws, Irene Gardner, David Kautzer, Mary (Roy) Rasmussen, Arnold (Delores) Wolf, Laurette (Charlie) Gleisner, Larry (Pam) Wolf, Rachelle (Randy) Haslow, Clarice (Dick) Clark, Gloria Wolf, Doris Wolf, Randal (Rosemary) Wolf and Renee (Rodney) Schoen.
She was preceded in death by her second son, Allan Wolf; her parents, Tony and Mercedes Bangart; sisters: Patsy (early childhood), Sister Antoinette (Beatrice) Joann Aschebrock; brothers: James Bangart, Terry Bangart and Tom Bangart; and in-laws, Patricia Bangart, Holly Bangart and Roy Brumbaugh. On the Wolf side preceding her in death were her in-laws: Frank and Mildred Wolf, Merlin Gardner, Marlin and Virginia Schmitz, Ken and June Marvin, Stan and Janet Metcalfe, Delores Kautzer, Patrick Wolf and Dennis Wolf.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Marlene (Wolf) Holdal for all her dedicated time in helping our parents, especially our mom, this past year and a half.
Also, to our nieces, Amanda Baird and Michele Tesch, for all their time away from their own families, their jobs and the sleepless nights to tend to her needs and comfort while she waited for the “Gates of Heaven” to open. You all went above and beyond the call of duty and will never be forgotten.
Funeral services were held at Christ the King Church, Spencer, on Monday, May 8, 2023. Paulbearers were her grandsons: Tyler Wolf, Rodney Deegan, Travis Wolf, Shaun Schober, Troy Shull, Kyle Wolf, Reggie Olson, Terry Brecht, Brendon Wolf and Scott Wolf.
