CCL Fall events and happenings

Visit the Colby Community Library to sign up for fall events.

Are you interested in reading and discussing books with others? Perhaps a book club would be just for you. Sign-ups for afternoon and evening sessions are open. The first evening book club session will be Tuesday, September 20 at 6 p.m. Members that evening will determine dates and times for the year. The first book is “The Forest of Vanishing Stars” by Kristin Harmel. Lisa Brill will lead the discussion.

If there is interest in an afternoon club, the first meeting will be Tuesday, September 20 at 2 p.m. Club members will determine dates and time after the initial discussion. The title, “What She Left Behind” by Ellen Wiseman, has been ordered for potential members.

Book club members do not need to purchase books. The library orders copies for them to pick up each month.

Sign up at the library if you desire to enroll in the Curriculum Crate program. This service, at the CCL, supplies educational supplemental materials on a topic or theme of the parents’ or educator’s choice. This is particularly useful for homeschoolers or classroom teachers. Submit requests three weeks before the items are needed.

Babysitter Totes

Babysitter Totes provide books, movies, and lessons for families to have their own story times at home at a time convenient for them. Register to receive a new tote monthly. This program is recommended for ages 2-5.

Books

The beginning of the school year is a great time to start a child’s reading adventure with the CCL’s 1000 Books Before (the end of) Kindergarten program. Reading binders are available to record books checked out from the CCL. At each 100 books completed level, a prize is selected. When reaching the 1000 book level, a travel reading pillow and book is awarded. Due to parent requests, we have 2000, 3000, and 4000 Books before the end of Kindergarten binders also available. All these programs promote child literacy and help children hear the recommended 21,000 words each day.

Story Times

If there is enough interest, story times will return to the CCL. Please register with days/times that would work best and library staff will attempt to accommodate.

Friends

Interested in meeting new people? Join the Friends of the CCL group. There is only one meeting a year, but there are several opportunities to help with fundraisers and assist at programs through the year.

Craft and Hobby

Register to join crafters and hobbyists on the third Friday of the month for Craft and Hobby night. Bring individual projects to work on in the company others. The first evening will be Friday, September 16. Doors open at 4 p.m. The group will determine food options.

The Travel Around the World reading challenge passports will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 30. There is still plenty of time to read ten books with different countries mentioned in them for a chance to win Abby/ Colby Chamber certificates.

The “Take and Make” craft offerings will continue, due to the generosity of the families of Joyce Rannow and Jean Brunker. Both women were influential in the lives of many students during their lifetimes, and memorials were donated to the library to continue the popular “Take and Make” crafts for children and their families.

Puzzles and Stick Togethers

Puzzles and Stick Together Mosaics are back. Stop in at the library to spend some time setting puzzles at one of the two tables or work on the new patriotic Stick Together Mosaic.

CMR Open

The Community Room children’s area is open. Adults, please accompany your children and join in interactive play with a variety of educational toys and kits.

New Baby Welcome Bags

New baby welcome bags provide a child’s first canvas library bag, along with other assorted baby items, to welcome the newborn to the library world. Parents of babies up to sixmonths of age are invited to choose a bag when visiting the CCL.
