Welcome back to Abbotsford schools

Welcome back to Abbotsford schools Welcome back to Abbotsford schools

Greetings! Wow, has this summer flown by. It seems like we were just walking the class of 2022 across the stage at graduation. I hope everyone has had a relaxing and safe summer.

Many things have been happening at school during the summer. We just wrapped up our July summer school session. It was great to see so many kids in the building. The pool has been a hit with summer swimmers. The kitchen staff has also stayed busy preparing breakfast and lunch for students in June and July.

The maintenance department has also been busy this summer. They have been cleaning classrooms and getting things ready for the school year. Air conditioning has been completed in the middle/high school classrooms and the north parking lot has been maintained. The South Gym floor has been resurfaced and painted and graphics have been added to the offi ce entries to greet you. We take great pride in our building. Speaking of building, construction for the FEMA addition is underway. A ground-breaking ceremony took place Aug. 9 and everything is in full swing. The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2023. Again, a huge thank you to those who supported the project and the referendum. We can’t wait to use the much needed space. The Abbotsford Booster Club has started a fundraising campaign to make improvements to the North Athletic Field. Please look for information regarding the three-phase project. If you are able to help in any way, please let me know. Our staff started in-service Aug. 15 - 18. There are a couple of opportunities for parents to become engaged in the school that week. On Aug. 16 at the Colby High School Theatre, Dr. Luis Cruz presented on how parents can support their English Learner students. Dr. Cruz is the former principal of Baldwin Park High School, located east of Los Angeles, Calif. Since becoming a public school educator, Dr. Cruz has won the New Teacher of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year and other community leadership awards. He and a committee of teacher leaders at Baldwin Park received California’s prestigious Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association for significantly closing the achievement gap between the general student population and students learning English as a second language.

Our annual Welcome Back Night is Aug. 17 from 4-8 p.m. New this year, I will be presenting to families in the North Gym at 7 p.m. The focus of the presentation will be student/parent engagement in the school. I will be presenting on all of the things we have that students/parents can get involved with in the school. This will include activities, clubs, sports and more. Please check it out.

The 2022-23 school year will be here before we know it. We will continue to strive to be a school district with excellent staff, programs and student achievement. It is always a great day to be a Falcon. Feel free to contact me if you have a question. You can call, email or stop in. My goal is transparency and my door is always open.
