Loyal girls finish second behind Colby at ECC meet
While the weather proved to be fickle at the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference Championship track meet held in Colby on June 8, the Loyal girls once again showed their consistency by taking the second place title. The Greyhound girls had several athletes place first or second at the meet, which was plagued by extreme heat and thunderstorm delays.
Three individuals on the Greyounds’ squad took conference titles, and two others were runner-ups in their respective events at Colby. Savannah Schley won three individual titles, taking them in the 400m dash (1:00.26), the 800m run (2:27.80) and in the 3200m run (13:37.22). Alyssa Zvolena took first place in the high jump with her leap of 4’10” and Abrial Kubista also took first in an event, leaping 31’6” in the triple jump. Finishing in second place were Aubre Robida in the 100m dash (13:43) and Margaret Reis in the pole vault (8’6”).

In addition to having individuals earn conference titles, the Loyal girls also had two relay teams take first place. The 4X100m relay was completed in 52.27 by Leah Scherer, Sheila Tellock, Aubre Robida and Alyssia Zvolena for first place. The 4X200m relay team of Abrial Kubista, Sheila Tellock, Miranda Trade and Alyssia Zvolena also took first, running a 1:56.63.
Earning a second place title was the 4X400m relay team (4:54.01) of Alyssia Zvolena, Miranda Trade, Haven Peroshek and Sheila Tellock. Halle Aumann, Ella Rand, Brianna Hederer and Riley Waldhauser ran the 4X800m relay, taking third with a time of 14:48.77.
The Loyal boys did not have any individuals earn a conference title, but the 4X200m relay team took second place. Running the relay in 1:45.37 was David Nikolai, Kaden Olson, Jaden Ruggles and Sully Hanson. The same group also ran the 4X100m relay, taking third place with a time of 49.16.

While none of the boys teams at conference could compete against the powerhouses of Neillsville and Colby, the Greenwood boys managed to outscore the rest of the teams at the meet, coming in third place. The team was helped by two first-place finishes by Nathan Revier. Revier earned his conference titles in the high jump (5’8.5”) and in the triple jump (40’5.5”) while also taking fifth in the 200m dash (24.71).

The Indian boys had one relay team compete at Colby. The 4x800m relay was completed by Avrey Horvath, Cody Eckes, Christian Thomas and Ashtin Palms in 9:55.72 for third place.
The Greenwood girls didn’t have any athletes place first or second at conference. The 4X200m relay team of Riley Gardner, Lauren Ingold, Rylan Linder and Kia Abel came the closest, taking third place with a time of 2:04.97. Sierra Myers teamed up with Gardner, Ingold and Lindner in the 4X100m relay, taking fifth with a time of 1:00.49.

Between the Spencer boys and Spencer girls, there were a couple individuals and relay teams that earned a conference title in an event. Leah Zastrow won two events, running a 16.05 in the 100m hurdles and vaulting to a height of 10’7” in the pole vault to earn the titles in those events. On the boys side of the course, Elliott Bauer, Alexander Baumgarten, Landon Behselich and Will Gorst ran the 4X100m relay, taking first place with a time of 48 seconds. The boys 4X800m relay team of Malachai Anderson, Kaizer Eickleberry, Cameron Nieman and Baumgarten took second place, running a 4:04.30 while the girls 4X100m relay team (Lydia Nieman, Faith Miller, Haylee Hopperdietzel, Bristol Engevold) took fourth place with a time of 56.11.
