Local model reaching for her dream

Tawnie Matyka, 33, owner of Misfits Salon of Medford, has taken her modeling career to new heights by entering in the Maxim Cover Girl contest.
Matyka is a Medford native and grew up on her family’s farm and has always had an interest in anything outdoors.
Matyka has also always been interested in fashion and style. When she came across the Maxim Cover Girl contest on Facebook, she figured she didn’t have anything to lose, so she entered.
On April 1, 2019 Matyka opened up her business Misfi ts Salon. She had a growing business until the pandemic put a wrench in her plans. Her business slowed down and she was wondering if she would be able to continue to have her small business. Since things started getting back to normal, she has had a steady flow of continuous clientele.
The Maxim Cover Girl grand prize is $25,000. If she wins the prize, she hopes to pay off some debt that has accumulated from opening up her small business. If there is some left over, she and her husband Wade, would like to take a honeymoon.
“My husband has been my rock through all my trials and tribulations. He is one to be rewarded as much or not more than me,” Matyka said.
The contest is for any woman who is 18 years or older. Competition schedule is as follows:
• Top 5 (begins July 7th and ends July 14th) – Public voting will help reduce each group to the top five entrants.
• Group Finals (begin July 14th and end July 21st) – Public voting will help reduce total Entrants to one preliminary winner in each group who will then advance to the Quarterfinals.
• Wildcard Round (begins July 22nd and ends July 24th) – Entrants who took second place in their Group Finals will compete in a shortened round for a second chance to advance to the Quarterfinals. Voting will be reset, and public voting will determine the one entrant from each Wildcard Round group who will then advance to the Quarterfinals.
• Quarterfinals (begin July 25th and end August 4th) – Preliminary group winners will be divided into Quarterfinal groups. Voting will be reset, and public voting will determine one winner from each Quarterfinal group who will then advance to the Semifinals.
• Semifinals (begin August 5th and end August 11th) – Quarterfinal winners will be divided into Semifi nal groups. Voting will be reset and public voting will determine one winner from each Semifinals group who will then advance to the Finals.
• Finals (begin August 12th and end August 18th) – Voting will be reset and public voting will determine the winner of the 2022 Maxim Cover Girl, on August 18.
You can cast your vote to help Matyka in one of two ways.
The first is: Warrior vote is a $ Vote you pay for the votes go towards Matyka but the proceeds go to Wounded Warriors Veterans Housing projects.
