Taylor Credit Union (TCU) held its 70th annual meeting on Saturday, May 22, at the Simek Recreation Center, with 76 registered members in attendance.

Chairman Mike Handel reported that at the end of 2020 the credit union’s assets were $70,820,808 and that loans were $39,591,476. There are now 7,817 members who have a total savings of $63,054,125. Member savings are federally insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration. Handel noted that the credit union has a strong net worth of 9.39 percent.

Taylor Credit Union’s field of membership is open to “everyone residing or employed within Taylor, Clark, Price, Lincoln and Marathon counties and a 25 mile radius of the City of Medford.” He reported on how COVID-19 affected their business and the impact on members. He encouraged members to open a Saver’s Sweepstakes account which awarded $3,450 in prize money to 35 TCU members in 2020.

President Debbie Woods shared a bit of credit union history and some comparisons from 1951 as they celebrate their 70th anniversary this year. She shared smart financial tips to pass along to member’s children and grandchildren and how Taylor Credit Union’s Student Credit Unions in local schools teach children the value of money. She invited the membership to stop in, over the next week, and participate in fun activities to celebrate their 70th anniversary. Woods thanked all of the board and members for their service and loyalty to Taylor Credit Union.

The special guest speakers at the annual meeting included U.S. Congressman Tom Tiffany and State Senator Jerry Petrowski. In recognition of Taylor Credit Union’s 70th anniversary, Tiffany presented a letter of congratulations to the membership and Petrowski presented the membership with a citation from the state of Wisconsin plaque, signed by Gov. Tony Evers, State Representative James Edming and Sen. Petrowski.

Informational booths were on display for the membership pertaining to the 70th anniversary, current loan promotions and Saver’s Sweepstakes.
