EATS
The Edgar Area Trail Supporters (EATS) announce that winter skiing trails are available at the Scotch Creek Woodland Preserve, but request that trail hikers do not step on and destroy the groomed ski trails.
“The ski tracks are essential to skiing,” said EATS president Bruce Kralcik. “They are and have been the focus of the whole trail system. It takes between two and three hours to groom the ski trail, after every snowfall, depending on conditions. The ski trail is eight feet wide at its narrowest, making plenty of room to walk beside the

ski track, not on it. Please, anyone who visits our trails, respect the pleasure that is derived from a groomed ski trail by those of us who ski. Skiers come to our village from miles around just to ski our trails. Nine Mile Forest is not far away, but we offer a much more intimate experience for skiers who have no need to go fast, and just want to enjoy the beauty of winter in the forest.”
Kralcik also reminded hikers with dogs to put the animals on a leash. “Come on out and walk your dog on a leash,” he said. “It is a village ordinance and common sense, as not everyone is comfortable around a dog running up to them when they go for a walk or run, or snowshoe, or ski.”
Kralcik said EATS takes care of trail grooming duties in the preserve but that a snowmobile used in setting tracks is currently out of commission.
“Our SkiDoo trail groomer is down for the foreseeable future with electrical problems,” he said. “ This won’t be an inexpensive repair.”

Feed the families
The kitchen staff at Edgar Public Schools will hold their fourth annual food drive for the Edgar/Marathon Circle of Joy food pantry. Breakfast items, such as cereal, Pop Tarts and oatmeal, and after school snacks, such as granola bars and crackers, are suggested donations. For every 100 items, the kitchen staff will donate a turkey roast in a food basket. If the school collects 1,000 items, the staff will provide the entire school with ice cream treats for lunch in January.
Last year, the food drive provided seven Edgar Public School families with needed food for the Christmas break.
