Two wins apiece from Gracie Tallier and Bailey Angell accounted for the majority of the points in Gilman’s sixthplace finish on the girls side of Friday’s William E. Dejung Invitational, hosted by Cadott.

Tallier was a top-four finisher in all four of her events, including wins in the 100-meter dash and long jump. She just missed another win in the 200-meter dash and took fourth in the 400.

Angell racked up two more wins in the shot put and discus. Her top toss in the shot put was her best of the season thus far, reaching 31 feet, 11.75 inches. She finished 16.5 inches ahead of runnerup Paige Smiskey of McDonell Central. Pirate Brooke Fryza added seventh-place points at 26-2.5 and Kaylee O’Malley (250.25) was 10th.

In the discus, Angell’s winning distance was 92-1, 10 inches ahead of Cadott’s Lucy Lindeman. Fryza was 10th at 74 feet even. Emma Grunseth (64-6) was 14th and Kaylee O’Malley (61-5) was 20th.

Tallier hit a season-best 15 feet in the long jump to beat 11 other competitors. She held a 6-inch margin over runner-up Katie Kent of Fall Creek. On the track, her winning time of 13.5 seconds in the 100-meter dash was 0.21 seconds ahead of Loyal senior Savannah Schley.

Schley got Tallier in the 200-meter dash as her time of 27.23 seconds clipped the Gilman sophomore by 0.23 seconds. Schley also won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.58, while Tallier was fourth, 3.2 seconds behind. Gilman’s Ava Gunderson added an eighth-place point at 1:08.62, while Sophia Drier was ninth at 1:10.79.

Abby Krug added a point with her eighth-place time of 7:04.27 in the 1,600-meter race. She was 12th in the 800-meter run at 3:13.46. Gunderson tied for eighth in the high jump. She cleared the bar at 4-2.

Gilman’s 57.5 points beat Spencer (46), Eau Claire Regis (43) and Thorp (8). Fall Creek won the meet with 122.5 points, edging Loyal by 4.5. McDonell (92), Cadott (79) and Stanley-Boyd (75) were third through fifth.

The Gilman boys scored 29.5 points and finished eighth. Fall Creek completed the team sweep with 162.5 points, while Stanley-Boyd (132) and Regis (87) made the top three. Cadott (83.5) was fourth, followed by McDonell (80.5), Loyal (50) and Spencer (48).

Andrew Hecker’s third-place finish in the high jump was the Pirates’ highest placement. He cleared 5-4 in an event won by Stanley-Boyd’s Carsen Hause at 5-8. Pirate Branden Ustianowski tied for 10th at 5 feet. Hecker’s jump of 17-10 placed fifth in the long jump, while Ustianowski was 10th at 16-6. Hecker added a fifth-place and season-best time of 57.05 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Troy Duellman was 16th at 1:01.58.

Dominic Franzen took fourth in the 200-meter dash with his time of 24.33 seconds. He was just 0.89 seconds behind winner Gus Theisen of Regis. Quintin Franzen was just off his personal-best in 27.96 seconds, good for 22nd. Dominic Franzen was fifth in the 100-meter dash at 12.42 seconds, which Theisen won 11.81 seconds. Dominic Franzen added two seventh-place points in the triple jump at 32-9. Adam Draeger was 14th at a personal-best 27-2.

Zack Marion’s distance of 34-11.75 was a season-best in the shot put and good for fifth place. Bryce Chovan (29-2.25) was 18th and Caleb Marion was 19th with his best throw so far of 28-6.75. Chovan led Gilman in the discus with an 11th-place and season-best throw of 82-11. Zack Marion (78 feet) was 13th and Caleb Marion (77-1) tied for 14th.
