Medford Dental Center welcomes two new dentists
Family Health Center of Marshfield, Medford Dental Center recently welcomed two new dentists A.J. Sahyouni, D.M.D. and Emma Stong, D.M.D.
While interning at Ladysmith, Dr. Sahyouni, mentioned to his co-workers how much he enjoyed Wisconsin and how great it would be to remain in Wisconsin. But he wasn’t just thinking of himself. Dr. Sahyouni was eyeing locations with two job openings, one for him and one for his fiancé.
Dr. Sahyouni met his fiancé, Emma Stong, when they were in dental school at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Ariz. While they each had one year remaining in school, Dr. Sahyouni ventured off for his internship in Ladysmith. His co-workers mentioned there were two openings in Medford and it all worked out as the couple made the move and are working in the same office at Medford Dental Center.
“I am excited to be here and excited to help. The people here are what make it so great,” said Dr. Sahyouni.
Dr. Sahyouni went to dental school in his home state of Arizona, after earning his bachelor’s degree at the University of Arizona.
Dr. Stong attended Minnesota State University-Mankato for undergraduate studies. She is originally from Fargo, N.D.
“We like the opportunity and the thought of being in a new state,” said Dr. Stong. “We were willing and ready to go anywhere. Being from Fargo, it’s good to be close to family and friends but also on our own. The upper Midwest is truly a wonderful area.”
Dr. Sahyouni always wanted to do something with health care, but a trip to a dental office during college changed his course.
“I wanted to be a medical doctor for as long as I can remember,” he said. “But, I shadowed in different specialties in medicine and it was not until I went into a dentist office that it just clicked with me. I also did volunteer dental work with various outreach programs helping dentists and thought, ‘I want to do that.’” Dr. Sahyouni is looking forward to experiencing a Wisconsin winter and trying out the state’s recreational opportunities in the winter months.
“I am excited to try new challenges like cross country skiing and ice fishing this winter,” he said.
Dr. Stong says she and her fiancé have been exploring the Medford area for restaurants and fun activities.
“It’s been great to get out and get to know the locals,” she said. “We’re exploring the general area, and we have enjoyed becoming a part of such a close-knit community.”
