1928-2024

June C. (Stock) Loertscher, of Janesville, was called to her eternal home in heaven by her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 30, 2024. She passed away at Mercy Hospital. June was born on June 21, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., to Nicholas and Helen (Stasek) Stock. She grew up in Chicago during the Great Depression. Circumstances required that she work rather than attend school so the family could survive. At age 14, June and her twin sister, Jeanette, went to work in a factory, replacing men who had gone to war, becoming ‘Rosie the Riveters.’ Following World War II, the family migrated to Wisconsin. She met her future husband, Leonard Loertscher, in Medford. They were married on Sept. 27, 1947, and were together for 72 years until his passing in 2020.

Len and June moved to rural Woodstock, Ill., where they farmed, and June worked at Admiral Manufacturing in Harvard, Ill.. They later moved to Abbotsford, where June returned to school at age 39 and graduated from Abbotsford High School. In 1962, they moved to Janesville. June went to work at the downtown Rexall Drug Store and eventually at Parker Pen. She was very proud to have been selected as a Penette Tour Guide, culminating in her being honored as “Miss Penette” in 1971. After retiring from Parker Pen at age 57, June attended Madison Area Technical College for two years, where she obtained her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. June worked for Cedar Crest Nursing Home for 26 ½ years, retiring at age 84. She loved all her patients.

June was a devoted Christian and a 62-year member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was a long-time member of the choir. She was an excellent cook and baker, contributing many of her recipes to the Janesville Gazette. She loved gardening and always had many flowers in her beautiful yard. She enjoyed walking and bike riding with her husband, Len. She was a fan of opera and classical music, and she was an avid Brewers and Packers fan.

June is survived by her sons, Dennis (Nancy) Loertscher and Leonard Jr. (Jackie) Loertscher of Janesville; daughter, Terry McClung of Oconomowoc; seven grandchildren, Garilynn (Randy) Gillitzer, Danielle Pierson, Jonathan (Kelly) Loertscher, Steven (Sara) Loertscher, Matthew (Cathy) Loertscher, Brian (Angie) Loertscher, and Jennifer (Justin) Emann of Janesville; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her brother, Nicholas Stock of Los Angeles, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Loertscher; two sisters, Margaret, and Jeanette; daughter-in-law, Donna Loertscher; and sonin-law, Jack McClung. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 2940 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, with Pastor David Bergelin officiating. Visitation took place on Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Apfel-Wolfe Funeral Home, 21 S. Austin Rd., Janesville. Visitation continued Monday, July 8, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
