James “Jim” Themar
1936-2024
James Jerome Themar, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024, in Wauwatosa, at the age of 87. Born on Nov. 13, 1936, in Medford, Jim lived a full and vibrant life, marked by the love of his family, devotion to his faith, a commitment to service, and a passion for the great outdoors.
Jim was the cherished husband of Pauline, and the loving father of Michael (Lori) Themar, Michelle (Danny) Rader, and Melissa (Robert) Geck. He was a proud grandfather to Gabriel, Sam, Henry, Bobby, James, Helen, and Kucera, and a step-grandfather to Kilian and Emerald. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Evelyn (late Charles) Tuma, and stepsons, Stephen and Ian (Elizabeth) Gould. His life was enriched by the close bonds he shared with each of them.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose-Marie, and his parents, Anna and Jerome Themar and sisters, Jeanette (Marvin) Quast and Theresa Themar and brother, Peter (Rose) Themar.
Jim’s early years were spent in Medford, where he attended Holy Rosary grade school and later graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1955. It was there he discovered his talent for running, becoming a formidable 400 meters sprinter. After high school, Jim answered the call of duty and served his country as a submariner in the United States Navy, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of pride and honor.
Following his military service, Jim embarked on a successful career that spanned three decades at Monroe Systems, where he applied his analytical mind to every task and challenge. His colleagues knew him as a friendly face and a reliable co-worker who brought both dedication and warmth to the workplace.
Jim was a man of many interests, but perhaps none so dear to him as his love for hunting and archery. He spent countless hours in the serenity of nature, where he felt most at home. In his younger years, Jim was also deeply involved in his children’s sports activities, always there to offer support and encouragement. His presence on the sidelines was a testament to his loving nature as a father.
Those who knew Jim would describe him as a loving, analytical, and friendly man. He approached life with a keen mind and an open heart, always ready to lend an ear or share a word of advice. Jim’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless memories he created with those around him.
His life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships and experiences. From the quiet depths of the ocean to the bustle of a busy career, from the thrill of the hunt to the joy of watching his grandchildren grow, Jim embraced every moment with enthusiasm and grace.
We will remember Jim for his unwavering support, his gentle spirit, and his ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to live on through the cherished memories he leaves behind.
As we bid farewell to James Jerome Themar, we take comfort in knowing that his was a life well-lived, full of purpose, and brimming with love. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
